right, hm.. Well, I've just joined this place myself, and though I don't detest Anime, I don't view the books in Anime form either. I view them.. as how I expect I'd view people in real life. It's more.. well, realistic. Then again, I haven't read Broken Sky, sooo.. As regards fanart, I *have* drawn one piece thus far, and it IS cartoonish (it's about the only style I can comfortably manage at the moment) but not Anime. (I'm not THAT big a fan of that particular style either, not to offend. xP) But to answer your question, yes, I doubt you're the only one; it's alright. ^^

Went to the "Fantasy Filmfest" last night and watched "Paprika" (2006). And I was stunned... the movie is phantastic. And this is coming from someone who doesn't really appreciate anime. If you see it in the video rental... take a chance and rent it

I'm an anime fan, though I'm not obsessive most of the time. I find it hard to really get into an anime/manga story most of the time because I ether don't like the art style or don't like the story line.

That's such a huge problem. I couldn't count the number of times I've been put off a good story by the art style, or ound beautiful artwork with next to no plot.
By contrast, western comics almost never have an art style problem, they all look loosely the same. Just as many lame stories though.

I have the first two volumes, but one of my friends spoilered the ending for me and it sounds like a terrible ending, so collecting the rest isn't my top priority.

I try not to go for the uber-popular manga and anime in the height of their popularity. It just makes it easier to collect later when I don't have drooling anime fangirls crowding around it. Plus, at this point, I don't really watch anime, I just read manga, and when I look for new series, I go to my fav publisher first to see if they have new works out.

Hm, yes, I'll have to make an exception for Studio Ghibli stuff. They don't exactly follow the typical style of Anime, and oh BOY do the storylines ROCK. But as for regular Anime/manga.. I guess Rurouni Kenshin (aka Samurai X) is alright.. (warning: this statement is biased because it's the only one I've watched and truly enjoyed so far) HEHEH.

As far as the art style, drawing manga-style has become such a phenmenon I'm almost embarrassed to have it my style as well. However, I'm comfortable enough with the fact that it is MY style and not me trying to copy anyone else that I don't feel to bad...though I am jealous of Marilis...

Man, I hate drawing in manga style. Not because I don't like the style (I really do) but because it means anyone who knows I draw manga starts to think all my pictures look like manga, even if they really don't. Like, anything I draw with big eyes or something all my arty friends say "Manga seems like a hard style to stop using, look at how big those eyes are." And I feel like slamming their faces into the desk and yelling "BIG EYES ARE A WESTERN THING!!!!"
Seriously, it's so infuriating; they read manga inflences into all my work, no matter what it actually looks like.

To shyviolet: Hm. I haven't seen that much of your art yet, but you're good. ...Though if you ask me, some of it looks like it follows the Avatar style juuuust a little. Might be why your friends think you're always drawing in manga style. They look fine enough to me, though! Okay, who am I to talk, yes? Avatar's done by western producers, isn't it? And I can't even draw manga for nuts. I'm currently tearing my hair out (well ok not quite but you get the picture) over Haku (from Spirited Away, who has charmed me so) because I just can't seem to get... well, something in my drawings never comes out right, even though I wouldn't exactly consider Spirited Away manga. I myself have noticed some Kim Possible and Danny Phantom style influence creeping into all my original drawings now.. It's not the best thing, but hey, at least it means I've managed to pick up those styles decently enough! xD Big eyes, I suppose, are dominant everywhere - the Japanese just seem to like to make them all feminine and shiny sometimes. Heh.

Haha, it's okay because all of the stuff I've put up here so far has been manga style. It's when I draw something in the style of an american cartoonist or something realistic, or even something in the style of traditional Japanese art rather than manga that it gets so annoying.
I wouldn't worry about Haku, there are only 7 people in all the known universe who can draw him properly. >_<
I am not one of them.

I've only read one entire comic book my whole life, and it was Spider-man, not even a manga. *shot*
(By the way, is that word pronounced like 'mayn-ga' or 'mahn-ga'? I've actually never heard anyone say it out loud. *shot again*
I do like Pokemon, though. Although, I hate the show, and only play the games. *shot once more*
