Hello everyone, I'm new to this whole forum stuff so you'll have to forgive me having no idea of what to write but I just can't resist this one.
My story; I got given a copy of Malice way back in Novemberish and (after a cursory glance and playing with the fun noisy cover for a while) added it to my growing pile of books I should eventually read...Boring story. Then about Febuaryish a friend at work passed a proof onto Retribution Falls onto me and (after a cursory glance and oooohing at the cover ^_^) I thought 'Awesome, it's like Firefly but bound in shiny paper' and fell about actually reading it....a few hours later I was using my work computer to attempt to find out as much as I could about Chris (tricky considering the blocks on the web) then later at home digging through boxes for Malice as well as booking out that HUGE omnibus of Braided path (finished yesterday, wow) to borrow and it's safe to say addicted for life.
Anyway, the first thing I came across on the site I could get through to was "I'm going to Eastercon" so, after much investigation so did I >.< and blurted a paragraph of nonsense at my new hero and ran off....I'm crap (He was really lovely to me though). Sooooo..... I'm going to express my fandom in a different way, nice to meet you all! I brought coco pops. Bobby x

Hello and welcome to our little internet lair. Please have some traditional welcome tea *gives tea* and make yourself at home.
I went to Eastercon! I looked like a paranoid crazy because I panicked when i saw my English teacher (what was she doing there? D:) so I'm sure he wasn't put off by you.

Hi Bobby,
I think I remember you. Black hair? Your boyf/male friend asked a question about World of Warcraft? You came up and said hi after the SF, Tech and Games panel debacle. Was that you?
Anyways, welcome! *waves*

Hiya ;]
Here's some red bean paste buns. To add some diversity. And because they're lovely.
You're so lucky. There are never any good conventions near where I am D<

In reverse order...
Eastercon wasn't anywhere neeear me; I did the driving the entirety of the M1 experience and then because it wasn't fun enough tried it so dog tired and hungover my eyes felt like lead on the way back (it wasn't any more fun). Thank you for the buns though, do they have ink in? I was given 'sesame' buns once and they had ink in them.......I found that a little too suspicious.
Hello Chris, thank you for welcoming me, yes that was me and I'm very embarrased and sorry I meant be very collected and cool making some amusing anecdote about bringing a book for you to sign but ending up foisting it off on a friend during a stop along journey because I am a professional forcerofbooksontootherpeople than offer to buy you a drink THEN run away and recuperate but that was obviously far too much for my drained energy (I lived on a diet consisting almost purely of cheese for the entire weekend because I'm poor and continental breakfast was free and easy to slip into my handbag). I promise since you've been lovely twice now I will try and talk properly if I ever meet you again.
Eastercon is a Science fiction convention (mainly literature but other things too) that happens over the Easter weekend (gasp) in various different places depending on who's running it, lots of panels as well as things like movie and gaming events (I spent the majority of the weekend attempting to surreptitiously 'kill' most of the people that I met there and playing werewolf but thats a personal preference). It's very fun in an intimidating sort of way (maybe I was just very lucky but everyone i met there was INCREDIBLY intelligent and I seem to have developed a complex now....That and Eoin Colfer was rude to me but I never liked Artemis Fowl anyway). Thank you for the welcome!
Thank you for the tea AND the welcome! What sort of tea is it? I'm worried about the sort of things your English teacher may have been doing if the sight of him/her panicked you...
Why couldn't you come to Eastercon? I'm sad on your behalf. Don't worry about me being afraid, the proximity of cake cancels out any fear that may have been simmering. Thank you for the BIG CAPITAL welcome.
I may go and actually see if I have anything to contribute to any other thread now that I've finished writing my massive dissertation of gratefulness. I'm sorry but the coco pops are all eaten now....There are broken choccie biccies though. Bobby x

I was hoping to do something similar... didn't go quite to plan... but few things do. Anyway, please do enjoy your stay. ::Edit:: The reason I couldn't go to easter con was because I was extremely busy with work, writing my madness opus and novels, uni work. I do mean Chris one day... but it will have to be another time.

Welcome~ sorry I'm late! I hope you enjoy your stay! Aw, the Eastercon... <3 At first, I didn't know whether I could go to the eastercon but ultimately ended up finding less and less reasons why not to so I asked Wollschaf whether she's come along and off we went. I figured it'd be now or never (never as in "some time later", ahem.) and it was the best vacation I ever had. And lest I forget: Have some tasty chocolate cake! Or would you rather have some... erm... vegetable lasagne?

Can I have real lasagne please? One of the people I work with said Eoin Colfer was nice when he came in for a signing too but another person (one more like me aka. under 30 and judgemental) said he was an ass. Anyway he was on a panel about whether classic books shoudl be continued or not and rather than the panelists actually discussing anything they just affirmed each other and basically said "hey this guy sitting next to me is great! Don't you think I'm great too" for half an hour till it dwindled into uncomfortable silence so I put up my stupid cheese-fuelled hand and asked what Eoin thought of Hitchhikers being brought to a new younger audience with him continuing them and he gave me a LOOK that said "I think you're under 30 and judgemental but NOT AS JUDGEMENTAL AS ME" and said something along the lines of "Well YOU (pause here for him to give me another up and down LOOK) wouldn't be old enough to know but we all read hitchikers when we were teenagers (pause here for the whole room to look smug and for me to feel shitty enough to actually APOLIGISE for being 20....) so it's not a new audience at all" it was the first panel I'd EVER asked a question on and he just made me feel AWFUL, so awful infact that I didn't even have the gall to point out that Artemis fowl is mostly read by 8 to 11 year olds and most teenagers that I know rightly think it's a crock of repetitive processed dwarf soil and WHO CARES that a bunch of now adults read Hitchhikers when they were teenagers, they're not teenagers now! No really they're not!
*pauses to catch breath*
Sorry about that it just really made me very sad, I did get my confidence back later though in the panel Chris was on (much more laid back and actually a discussion thank god), enough so to upset the guy I was with there but cutting off his question and making everyone think about World of Warcraft....But thats another story.

Aw! Yes, come and say hi next time. I'm very approachable. You just have to kind of stay low, maintain eye contact and not make any sudden moves. It also helps if you're holding some form of cookie.

Speaking of conventions, which will be the next one people'll be at? I've been meaning to go to one but I always miss 'em.

Next time I get word that Chris is at a convention, I will sell bodily organs if necessary to go. I'm so bummed I couldn't go, but it's kind of hard to afford to go to another country when I'm working only 21 hours a week, paying for an apartment, and paying for university.
Anyways, late welcome. Hello, hello, welcome to our humble forum. I...um...am at a loss as to what to offer, so I guess for this time, I'll just have to offer my welcome and hope to have something more next time.
