However, the film rights to Malice have been snapped up so we'll be doing our bestest to get that made over the next 18 months or so! Ooooh, that's very exciting! Hope it all goes well! ;D Keep us updated, as you always do. ^_^

I apologise profusely if this has been asked before, but why was the title of The Ace of Skulls changed to Retribution Falls? Personally I think the former title sounds much cooler. Of course if I'll find out some great significance to the new title just by reading it then I am sorry I ever doubted you. P.S. This will sound like a silly question, but is the word 'daemon' in the book pronounced 'day-mon' or 'dee-mon'? Trivial, I know, but it's important to me to know these things.

@ Shy - I think it was changed because some book or game called Ace of Skulls came out sometime recently. Don't quote me on that, though

I seem to remember something similar--that the title had to be changed for copyright reasons. But, I'm really not sure.

If you could have any one thing right this very moment, what would it be?
....and now, what was the very first thing that came to your mind?

This is probably fairly obvious, but I want to make sure, and it sounds so much more official if Chris says it, lol.
On your site, on the April 21st post, you mention that HAVOC is due out in London in Feb 2010. But, you also say it's set for release in America in Oct of that year. But...silly me, I haven't seen MALICE out anywhere in the US. Is MALICE indeed set for US release sometime (presumably before HAVOC) soon?
If so, that's awesome news! It's good to see the US getting some more of your books. Maybe then there will be an interest to get The Fade over here as well.

I have a question or two: have you seen anybody ever cosplaying any of your characters? And if you have, what's your reaction to it? (sorry if this has been asked before)
And also, I wanted to ask what sort of dress do you see Lelek in? I saw something like a Lolita dress, and i wanted to make one for a cosplay of her ^-^ But i thought i should ask what you saw her in for a better idea.

I forgot about this thread, but now I've seen Sake-Kun's post I'm inspired to ask a question of my own that's been on my mind today.
A little rep told me you don't do events, not going to bother asking why as I can think of a million reasons why I wouldn't want to in your position buuut... What kind of super awesome things would I have to arrange in order to convince you to briefly change your mind?
I'm giving you lee-way on this one to ignore it since it wasn't really a fannish question more of a professional one which I'm not sure I should use this board for...

It's not weird, it's a nice change. I get bored writing prose and describing things for months at a time. Scripts focus totally on dialogue, character and plot. I actually like not having to describe or direct in scripts.
As to which I prefer, can't really say as they're so different.
Jabba the Hutt. He's so misunderstood.
Um. The birth of the universe?

Purely cos it didn't sound right for the book. Too harsh for a book that's really quite light-hearted. A lot of people found it odd, and I wasn't too bothered about it, so we changed it. More time to think about this question. Cake. Malice is out in the US in Oct this year. Havoc is (presumably) out in Oct 2010. I haven't, but it would be sort of cool, I guess. Lelek's dress... I have no idea As you can probably tell by my descriptions, I tend to think of people in terms of hair and eyes rather than what they're wearing. It would be a fairly expensive dress, since she came from a rich family IIRC. Other than that, I just don't know. It was all so long ago... A fleet of dancing monkeys would be a good start I do do events! You met me at one, remember?

Hmm... fair enough. I just felt when I read it that 'The Ace of Skulls' seemed more appropriate because it was a theme that popped up a lot, whereas Retribution Falls was a little less... not less important, but in the book so much less that the change didn't make sense. It could just be because I went to a crappy secondary school that was populated with really over-the-top goths, but Retribution Falls sounds darker to me than The Ace of Skulls. Skulls are so cutsified these days.

Hmm I assume he meant bookshop events rather than conventions or anything else you might do. The next question is obvious; if I phone up your publishers and flirt unashamedly with them what's the likelihood of you coming and signing at my store?
We're a bit short on monkeys at the moment but I have a very hungry caterpillar costume somewhere and there are all sorts of weird secret passageways in the shop which are just utterly awesome especially if it's raining. The city's not too shabby either XD

It could just be because I went to a crappy secondary school that was populated with really over-the-top goths, but Retribution Falls sounds darker to me than The Ace of Skulls. Skulls are so cutsified these days. I certainly thought, as I was doing something brain-numbing enough that I could think such random tangents to myself, that The Ace of Skulls could well have been the book's title also - though I hadn't remembered that it had been, at one point. But in the end, I think Retribution Falls is more suitable for a couple of reasons; one as Chris mentioned above, Ace of Skulls would suggest to me a more gothic type book, but also it's helpful in the narrative - knowing that the book wasn't to be the only book in the universe, I might have dismissed the early mention of Retribution Falls as merely flavour text to add some extra depth to the folklore of the world. As it was the title of the book, however, I stood up and took notice whenever it was mentioned in passing. Essentially it helped the less ably witted amongst us (a role here fulfilled by yours truly) to notice when the author was throwing us a bone in terms of plot foreshadowing. As for a question; from previous wiki-searches, I saw that Terry Brooks has also used the name 'Jachyra' for one of his races/monsters/somethings. Is this just a naming coincidence, or did you both take inspiration from something mythological or whatnot that I'm unaware of?

Jabba the Hutt. He's so misunderstood. Ha. Nice. Jabba the Hut... I wouldn't have thought of that. ;D As for the screenplay/prose, I see that. It's not necessarily a BAD weird (in my opinion) just, weird. But as my good freind and fellow aspiring writer said 'write everything. Literally, whatever type of writing you can think of, write it.' So I'm trying my hand at everything. In that spirit, what's the oddest (format wise) thing you've ever written? For example, one time I tried to write an entire novel from the point of view of the characters around my main character. And I am terribly envious of you Europeans! We Americans are still waiting for Retribution Falls... Curse America for being all the way across the Atlantic...
