Yesh, gosh. As we've all been really busy annoying poor Chris with questions I made this new question-thread. Link:Question Thread #1Open questions from the first thread:I'll be in Italy this summer. Come see me? Kidding. Sorta. Where do you get inspiration for characters/plots? (I don't know if this has been asked before...) Hey Chris, wondering if you ever use songs/music videos as inspirations for stories, or listen to particular musicians when writing? Important: Questions that have already been asked will be posted as a list soon! Happy posting, Your Friendly Admin

Sweet! new forum. I think, being that the question forum reached its 20th page, it's only fair to ask: how did you find this place? Is there some kind of story behind it all? Also....can you draw? I haven't even glanced at Pandemonium yet. ....S'all I got

I'll be in Italy this summer. Come see me? Kidding. Sorta. Where do you get inspiration for characters/plots? (I don't know if this has been asked before...) Haha, quoting myself. Anyway, I guess I'll narrow down my question (the second one, by the way). Where'd the inspiration for Storm Thief come from (characters, plot, anything)?

Aww, I'd like to hear where the inspiration came from for Haunting and his other books too. ^_^

Hey to Chris (and everyone else), I'm new here, and i am amazed by your dedication to your fans. It is almost hard to believe that you take the time to listen and answer all these questions... I'm truly amazed. I'm going to try and not write screeds and screeds & ask a million questions, as i am sure you are busy and other people have asked things too I just noticed in an earlier comment when asked about where you would like to travel you mentioned alot of places (ie, Giza pyramids and Macchu Pichu) that are sortve archaeological...(Im a 1st year archaeological student in Edin. Uni, hence the interest) I was just wondering, do you get inspiration from such places? Can you sit surrounded by history and picture the world that once exsisted and then just let your imagination take you... away? I apologise for your past with stalkerish fans, some people just get a little over enthusiastic sometimes... Thank you for inspiration, Al x

I have to wonder.......do you ever fantazise (fantacise, fantazice, something that isn't mispelled) about moving away from the world and owning a farm with a three legged animal of your choice to take care of? A simple acre of plotland that noone else can dare encroach upon? Or do you love to be in the wild world of cities and muggers, but choke on the filth we spew to run our respective lives? Comfortable in the fact that there are billions of other people inadvertently destroying the world in their own way? Wow. I do believe that's one of the longer questions I've ever asked. Or re-asked several times in a row. ...I tend to be quite spiteful about the world in general. Something clearly isn't working.

i was wondering about something. is the use of names things and/or people used in legends and myths copy right? for example: the stories of King Arthur, is calling a sword in a story "Excalibur" considered copy right? add-on: not sure if this was asked (which is pretty sad considering that i'm probably the one who asked it if it was asked) have you ever wanted to go to hawaii? do you think you might ever decide to come to hawaii? if so, can you message me so that i can see you? ;D i've been told that to get started in the writing profession i should send the first few chapters of my story to a publisher and if they like it then send the rest. is that a way to get started (other then getting an agent)? one last add-on that may not be expected: are there any questions you have for your fans? anything you ever wanted to know about us?

Copyrights always have an expiry date, when they have to be renewed. How long ago d'you think Excalibur ran out? So no, everything that wasn't created by any people in particular is by its nature copyright free. Same with old folk songs, anyone can record 'em. It is, however, considered kinda unoriginal and derivative... making your own stuff up and making it equally credible to the myths is part of what makes an author good, after all!

Is there any word on when The Fade will get to the U.S. and/or if the cover will be the same?

I kinda doubt the Fade will get here. But maybe we'll get lucky.
Aww, now, I said I wouldn't ask more Haunting of Alaizabel Cray questions but my stupid mind came up with another one. >_<
I was wondering if you've ever seen Silence of the Lambs and if you based anything from Haunting off of it. I ask because I watched the movie last night (one of my favorites), and one character just seemed extremely similar to one from Haunting. Also, the end of the movie reminded me a great deal of the end of Haunting.
I won't go into detail in case someone doesn't want the movie spoiled.
And I'll try to think of better non-Haunting-related questions. >_<

Okay. Have you ever considered going to Australia? Like, for a Holiday? *coughBOOKSIGNINGSESSION* Because I note that you travel a looot. Actually, have you ever been to Australia before and I just haven't known about it? UhmUhm, What happened to the Alaizabel Movie? I know you were in the process of writing a script on it a while ago. Sorry if this question's been asked before D8 And I have another question, that I'm not sure is a relevant one or not since I haven't read aaall of your books yet (blasphemy, I know. But I can't seem to find them at my local stores~). But. I notice that the lead characters in TBP, The Fade, Alaizabel and Poison... they're all female. And there are very large characters in those aforementioned four books that are all female. And while I personally don't see anything wrong with it, it just ocurred to me, do you find writing a story about a Female easier than a male? I'll expand on that so I don't look like a sexist pig XD As a RolePlayer, I've noticed that most people... if you're a girl, you'll roleplay as a girl and if you're a boy you'll roleplay as a boy. This is not the case for EVERYONE, but, you know, I was just wondering if it affected you in any way, or if you had a view on it? Because so far in a total of... three original things I've started writing, all of my lead characters, or at least the semi-main characters are female o-o And I reeeally don't know why~ Not to mention in many books I've read, sometimes the gender of the main character coincides with the gender of the author/ess. ...Actually, I haven't read a large portion of the world's literature to be a correct judge of that. ...I feel like an idiot for typing up such a weird question/ramble. I don't think the last bit even made sense. Feel free to disregard? XD Luminous.

i know one way is to look at the information in the front of the book, but is there any other way to get an agent?
is it better to get a agent in my local area or one over seas(i live on an island) or something?
this is probably a dumb question, is there any way to find the right type of agent? (what do i look up in the phonebook or online?)
thanks

Nicholai, get yourself a copy of The Writers Guide 2008 - there's a new copy every year. It is an up-to-date listing of the year for publishers and agents, and the genres in which they cover. Once you find an agent in the book you want to run with, research them.
It doesn't really matter where the agent is located, as long as they're the real deal and your writing is good enough to be sold out to publishers.
