Ok, so, what other authors do any of you fair folk like? What other genre’s do you read? What is your favorite book in the world if it isn’t something CW? I know this is a forum based on Chris Wooding, but nobodies gonna get hurt if ya’ll like a different author just as much as you enjoy CW’s work. Before I a read anything from CW, my fave author was Peirs Anthony, *faints* OMG, so old school, I know but he was a great author for his genre. Then ofcourse comes Edgar Allan Poe for when I’m in a darker, more dimmented mood. Well, come on then people, talk a little. This forum is way to empty. Start posting PEOPLE!!!!!!!!! That’s what a forum is for.
*Huggles copy of Endgame*
I may like other author's, but right now, CW is my favorite!

First of all, I totally love you for keeping this forum alive! Totally, you rock! *huggles* Thank you really much! °v°~
And yeah, even I like other authors too. Although Chris is on top and no one else will be there but him. I looove Edgar Allan Poe! I was reading some of his works yesterday night and I love his style. For some reasons (translations being so bad, few German authors and so on and so forth) I have read much more Englisch books than German. And German is my native language... shame, isn´t it? But well, Spring 2004 I bought Lycidas by Christoph Marzi and the book is simply awesome. And the author is German! So whee~ There aren´t much German authors I know about. I want to change that though. I dunno, lemme think... other authors... °~° I like Terry Pratchett but must admit, I haven´t read that many books of his. Always started but thus far have only finished "Maurice and His Educated Rodents". And I loved the book. It was so... thrilling. I want a rat, too! ~...~ I couldn´t read Tolkien though. His style wasn´t appealing to me. I dropped the first book after a few pages. No offence to possible Tolkien-fans here but... it wasn´t my kind of Fantasy. XD When I was younger (sounds as if that´s already a loooong time ago... <.<) I read Christine Nöstlinger. Also writes in German. Her way of writing was awesome and funny. Really good work. Nowadays I also read, you might know her too, Cornelia Funke. I adore Tintenherz. And almost threw Tintenblut at the wall because the ending was... nooot the way I liked it to be. (Fan speaking of course. If I was the writer I would have done the same °v°~). So whee~ then. It seems I know at least three German authors! Ha! I´m good. X3
See ya around!

Allright. I like people who are willing to speak their mind, (or throw their book), if they don’t like something.
* Looks over at stack of books that have hit the wall *
But wait, there’s more…
* looks out the window….three stories down *
Ohwell
*wags tail*
Your write, Tolkien wasn’t my style either. It was to simple, to bland, to overused. It seems that every other fantasy book was written just like Tolkien’s and the novelty wore off quite quickly.
I really havn’t read any stuff from foreign authors yet, (I’m American), but I plan on finding some translated foreign works soon, once I catch up on all of CW’s stuff first. Speaking of which, * looks for nearest book store My copy of Endgame just got ruined, * shakes fist at washing machine and pants with pockets big enough to fit a book* Ok, so it might have been my falt but ohell. I’m just gonna go by another one real quick.

You actually washed your copy of Endgame? °~° And they were worrying about a nuclear war. XD I am sure they didn´t see that coming.
Poor booky. Poor you. XD Good for Chris though... more money for him. <.<

As I said in my intro, I really like Terry Pratchett (and must admit I read all his books), Neil Gaiman, Christoph Marzi and Ende (although only Der satanarchäolügenialkohöllische Wunschpunsch and Die unendliche Geschichte). Poe is great, of course! And I totally forgot to mention Cornelia Funke~ Does anyone know Simon Singh? The Code Book is really cool. About Tolkien... How should I know? I read the German translation and didn't like it because the landscape seemed to have more character than the characters, but I can't say anything about the style of the books.

So, what else do I read? Anne Rice, both vampires and witches. Just about any vampire novel I can get my hands on, unless it says on the back cover that It was a night like many, but this time, the vampire police officer Fang Slain had to face his biggest enemy: Gar van LicI'm also pretty much cured of college vampire stuff. Then there's Christoph Marzi, of course. I hope his work will be translated into English one day, while capturing his unique style. Like that, our anglophone friends can enjoy him too. I am also grateful to him that he helps me maintain my native language. Trudi Canavan's second and third book of the Black Magician Trilogy are patiently waiting for me. I read "The Magician's Guild" some time ago, and enjoyed it quite a lot. Then there's the highly insane third Chris: Christopher Moore. The man's a total lunatic. Oh, and Phil Pullman's "His Dark Materials"! Very inspiring. The only non-fantasy author I enjoy reading is Kathy Reichs. Every now and then I need a dose of her forensic anthropology. Favourite book? Now, that's tough. Very tough. One I can reread (and that doesn't happen very often) and enjoy every odd year, is "The Raging Quiet", by Sherryl Jordan. The book that made me laugh the most recently is "Lamb - The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal" by the aforementioned lunatic Chris. And I am more than happy to have found "Lycidas" (by Marzi) with Maliris' help

Other things that are to be found in the index of the Searchonomicon: The drow trilogy by R.a Salvatore. One of the best dark elf published materials and it's in the forgotten realms..; sorcery adventure and morality go clash in Menzoberanzan. Hyperion, the rise of hyperion and the Endymion books. If you have a stomach for difficult SF then these are the ones you should check out. You take a mix of far future tech and a storyline that abuses time and you have over 2000 pages of pleasure from it. Author : Dan Simmons Just for fun and the sheer pleasure of a madly raging dwarf and his human companion I suggest the series of felix and gotrek; skavenslayer/dragonslayer/demonslayer/vampireslayer They all are great fun and a light enough read for the less then long attention prone to us. I see that a few here have problems with Tolkien but i must say I really enjoy his works. The powerfull yet subtle magic that is woven across the world, the friendship that is forged through endurance and faith are all nicely described. The friends , who even if they do not see eachother for years , can continue as if there was no seperation when they meet again is a view that I share on these things so of course it is to my taste. Tolkien may seem boring in the beginning but don't despair, the works become better as they go along. I'll post more later on but these will already provide you with 30 or more hours of reading Search

Authors whom I read:
David Eddings: I own almost all of his books. I like Sparhawk as a hero the most, but I prefer the Belgariad and Mallorean as the series of books. He also has a character named Barak in his story (which, if I recall correctly, was a rank in the Braided Path Trilogy).
Robert Jordan, and his neverending Wheel of Time.
David Gemmell, even if his books all follow a similar style.
Robert Rankin, in my opinion funnier than Terry Pratchett. I mean, how many people do you know who can get a story based on the F.A. Cup to print?
I am sure there are others, but I cannot see my bookcase too clearly from here. :/

For being such an avid reader, my book collection is rather small, and my precious Chris Wooding books dominate most of it. I tend to just get books from the local library, but then I always forget what I've read.
Anway, there's a series by Robin Jarvis, Tales from the Wyrd Museum, which I had since I was about 10 and wasn't into fantasy. Then I read them a few years ago and got hooked. I quite like the books as they're very original and with some very memorable characters (both good and evil).
I love the His Dark Materials trilogy, but don't own it. However, I tried a non-fantasy book by Philip Pullman and gave up. I can't remember what it was called now, but I just couldn't get into it.
I did try Lord of the Rings, but I got so bored. I love the films, so it's rather an oddity as books are ALWAYS better than films for me. It was just that I felt there was too much journeying from one place to the next, and not enough action.
As for non-fantasy authors ... I've recently got into Hunter S Thompson's work. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is one of my favourite books, and I'm about to read Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail. I love the way he writes.

Anyway my favourite writers include China Mieville, Terry Pratchett, Neal Stephenson, Thomas Pynchon, Clive Barker, Arthur C Clarke, Umberto Eco, Douglas Adams, Robert Cromier, Charles Stross, Mark Danielewski, Ian McEwan, Hal Duncan, Cormac McCarthy and so many others.
I also enjoy comics by Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Neil Gaiman, Warren Ellis, Garth Ennis, Kurt Busiek and Brian K Vaughan.

I enjoy Hunter Thompson as well. My favourite HT book is the Rum Diary. Oh, I've been really wanting that book for ages. Apparently, they're turning it into a film with Johnny Depp in it (like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas).

Favorite authors (in order of greatness):
Chris Wooding (of course) Jonathan Stroud Hilari Bell Edward Bloor J.R.R. Tolkien (he's been demoted several times, maybe more than I remember... I know there're books I like better than his stuff, but not other authors that I can name right now)
