What did you think about Crake's problems, his character development and his actions in the book?
I was a tad shocked when it became clear that he had started to drink himself senseless. He didn't seem to be in such a bad shape in book one... though back then, they had something to do and more pressing matters to worry about so it was a good distraction from his past.
One good side of him getting wasted was the reactions it provoked from the rest of the crew. There was so much bromance going on in that book... :thumbs up: (I mean, the bit with the compass and the ring right before Crake leaves?! Aw.)
When Crake decides to get to work, I wondered what he would do. I got to thinking that he'd need a body for Bessandra but her own body is dead so where would he get a new one?! The thought of getting a recently deceased girl's body crossed my mind but I thought it'd never work. When he honestly considered doing that I was shocked, again. Bess wouldn't want that. She wouldn't be able to forgive him for that.
It was such a relief when Crake got to realize this, too.
I loved the fact that you cannot just bring back the dead. I loved it that he had to come to terms with what he did and accept that he couldn't change what had happened. Just like how Jez cannot change who she is. It's a part of him now. That was a nice subplot I thought.
And to have him back with all his wits together in the last chapters was nice. I hope that book three will adress what happens next. I am not too sure what will happen in book three as Chris pointed out that he redid the whole thing. We shall see.
So, what did you think?
