I have no idea who already bought or read it so I decided to make a thread where people can post their thoughts and impressions. A good starter-thread as any, I suppose. Spoilers for the beginning of the book! Beware!! Highlight to read! When Havoc arrived in the mail on Friday last week, the weather had been good. It was warm outside, birds were singing, kids playing happily in the streets - it didn't really feel right to read Havoc with this kind of happiness going on everywhere. Luckily (?) over the course of the day, the sun vanished behind a layer of rainclouds, a ghastly wind picked up and then the rain set in, together with thunder. I poured myself a glass of white wine and started to read Havoc. Funnily enough, it begins with a storm, too, so that worked pretty well. I liked the bit in Philip's house. IRC channels are creepy places, I knew it. Oh, and about the first comic pages: the little whatever-it-was that drives the carriage is cute. What is that?! It looks like a armadillo-alligator-lizard - with goggles. <3 Also, somehow it didn't surprise me that Kady was the leader of Havoc. I suspected something like this. EDIT: Maybe it'd be helpful if I added some links to online-shops where you can buy Havoc. www.bookdepository.com/book/9781407105116/Havoc (free international shipping!) www.lovereading.co.uk/book/9781407105116/isbn/Havoc-by-Chris-Wooding.htmlwww.amazon.co.uk/Havoc-Theres-no-Going-Back/dp/1407105116/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpi_3

I completely forgot it was out so soon, even though you only mentioned it a few weeks ago! I'm adding it to my list of post-exam treats, but that means I can't have it for another 30 days...

This is out already? Now I've got 2 books on my to-buy list, and I'm already reading 4 books with 3 more queued up... I need to read more. And write more. Huh.

Oh my, I just got it! I completely forgot it was out so soon too, I left my copy of Malice at home when I moved back to university so I was confused for about the first two chapters. Foolish Shy! It would be the first time I decided NOT to take my entire Chris Wooding collection with me that I'd actually want it. So far I'm only at your first spoiler Maliris (thanks for putting them all on separate lines), but I loved that bit too! Sooo creepy. *gleeeee*

Spoilers for the same bit below (again, highlight to read!) I was really wondering how Seth would try to get back to Malice. Because calling Tall Jake would be pretty daft and he didn't have a ticket so how could he cross over otherwise?
That there are supposed to be places that are connected to Malice - I quite liked that. It adds to the urban legends-character of the book and makes it a bit more "real" - because Malice is not only connected to the real world via a comic book but also via accessable places in the real world. Not to mentiont that I like transit-places.
Did that bit even make sense?
Also, poor Alicia. That is what you get when you pick up hysterical boys who are chased by carnivorous deers monsters and evil overlords. :IThese disembodied smilies look funny.

I know! I loved the idea that Malice was leaking into our world in places where it was already sort of similar. Have you finished the whole book?

Why yes, yes it is. Can we stop flagging spoilers now that at least two of us have read all of it, or do I still need to beige everything out? How'd you like the ending? I thought it was pretty good. I liked how there wasn't a romantic scene at the end, it would have been annoying if the one female character who's been there all along got stuck as a love interest, you know? The ending of a story tells you a lot about whose story it is, so that would have annoyed me.

Gosh, sorry. I wanted to write a lengthy reply. D: Anyway~ SPOILERS ! ! ! ! For the whole book, too, so be careful! I was happy when I saw that the final battle was all in comic form. That must have boosted sales, too. XD First things first, though: The acropolis was great! It was a nice twist that there were certain side effects to blasting a city with magic, like distorted perception of perspective. Not to mention the mosaic monsters! Those were brilliant! The Queen of Cats. Yeah, a typical cat. Pity that the Lack is not a catperson... The passages with Alicia were cute. She was pretty resourceful, wans't she? XD I also approved of Kade not coming with Seth. At first I was a tad disappointed that she chose this world over Malice but that was her character. Anything else would have been wrong and OOC. Besides, now that Tall J is dead and gone I guess it makes living in Malice a bit easier. Less deadly. I'm sure Seth'll visit from time to time. After all, there are still lots of white tickets lying around somewhere.

(Sort of spoilers?)
I think I was biased towards that part just because I really like the word 'acropolis'. It's such a fun word to say, and actually applies to some real places too.
I've come across the idea of magic residue messing with perspective and stuff in other stories and I find it just as cool now as I did then. It makes sense in a weird, cartoon logic sort of way. Like in Peter Pan and the Pirates where in one episode the pirates lost their shadows and couldn't balance, so they all had to walk on their hands. It made a weird kind of sense. I mean, if magic is basically the power to either create illusions or warp reality, it feels like it should leave places where reality is all... warpy...
Bleh, brain not working. Sorry, I just handed in my last project for this term and I have a head cold, I'll come back when I'm able to make sense again.

yes i finally read the whole book and there needs to be a sequel with seth's and justin's adventures in malice exploring the rest of the world and new problems arise. like tall jake said do you really think the other power houses of malice would rule it better than he did? ( im sure they would my opinion) but what about the shard it seemed like a wild car even the lack didnt seem like she was all too trust worthy and you can predict what the queen of cats would act like lol
