He usually waits a bit for a few questions to be asked, then answers them all in one or two posts. ^_^ Be patient.

More questions! There was one I always wanted to use called a terrobuli, an old myth about twins that burst into flames when they're in close proximity. Couldn't work out how to get them in. And there was a creature that could only be seen out of the corner of your eye, but he got cut God knows. I pinched them off Slaine in 2000AD. They're ancient Celtic spears. Yes, you're absolutely correct. Silly me. Lucky it's an alternate reality, and it's MY alternate reality, so I get to be right anyway ;D I never did play the first two, but I am dead excited about Fallout 3, cos both Black Isle and Bethesda Softworks worked on it, who are my two favourite software houses. So it'll be ace. My feet. I don't own a car. You live in London, you really don't need one, and you can get pretty much anywhere in England on the train.

It's very difficult, but if you're good enough you'll get pubbed eventually. Mostly it's about practice and perseverance. If it doesn't work one way, do it differently. And while connections are extremely useful, I didn't have any and I did okay.
Basically: buy Writers & Artist's Yearbook. Send samples to agents within. Rinse and repeat till you get an agent. After that you'll at least have someone to advise you, and the rest will follow.
To an extent, yes, because they do take on a life of their own. But I never REALLY think of them as real. That way lies Star Trek conventions...
No, I don't. Those are actually just coincidences. I had a Finnish guy tell me Kaiku was Finnish for 'echo' not so long ago.
It was only really in Storm Thief, 'cos I was trying to be clever. I scattered a bunch of Hungarian in there because the names sounded appropriately grim and dystopic. (I think Orokos is Hungarian for 'eternal' but I can't remember exactly).
The Zone is based on a place in my hometown which was an old school that burned down and had been left to rot. We used to explore it and get frequent tetanus from all the rusty nails. I just expanded it a little.
Yeah, people say 'sod' around the Midlands, though it's quite a weak profanity.

Thanks for answering my questions! Well, I certainly hope I get good enough to be published. And if not, that's what practice is for, eh? And, about the characters, that's what I meant; y'know, them taking on a life of their own. That'd be more then a little odd if I like... dressed up as one of my own characters. Even seems too wierd for me, and more than just a bit narcissistic. That's sad about they wych-kin who didn't make the cut; they sound awesome.

wow, i haven't been here in such a long time.
i have a question about character names. if i remember correctly you said that you have one character from each letter, (sorry if this part was answered) then i read the one post about the origins of the names. so i was wondering how you pick out the names? is it from the top of your head, or do you look up good names to use?
i found one way to find names for stories is through watching credits for tv shows or movies. there are so many to choose from, some so unique that it would be cool to have it as a character name.
also, what are your thoughts on giving full (first and last) names to characters? as far as i can remember... i don't recall any of your characters having a last name.... as far as i can remember.

The characters in Haunting all had last names...Except for Stitch-face, of course. Thaniel Fox, Cathaline Bennet, Alaizabel Cray, Mammon Pyke, Lucinda Watt, Ezreal Carver, Regellen Maycraft, Marey Woolbury, Ezekien Crott, etc. Crashing and Kerosene had last names as well, though I don't remember those as well. Braided Path, as well.

Have you ever seen the Studio Ghibli films? Or manga/anime? I know that sounds really random, but I've always thought that your books would be perfect to be turned into animes. The creatures are too brilliantly designed for them to be wasted if the CGI can't get it right. Do you agree?

I think that's been asked already... But I'd enjoy hearing the answer again! Heheh, while I'm here I may as well ask you a question, Chris... So uh, what do you think of the game Mirror's Edge? I can't wait for it to come out on PC so that I can get it! Slightly off-topic: I'm getting The Fade for christmas (I hope) and it will be the first 'adult' book that I have ever owned myself! Also, my mum boredly picked up one of your books that was lying around my room and got hooked on it. I gave her Poison to read (as I was reading the one she looked at... well, for the second time)

i forgot... your a gamer right? do you have the new generation systems (360, wii, ps3)? if so, do you play online?
if "yes" for all the above (one can hope): what's your online name for those systems?
add-on: i found something you might like (do you like items -necklaces, rings, replicas, etc- related to anime?) what's your address so i can send you one for a gift of some sort?

I really doubt Chris will give you his gamer tag...simply because (as has been stated before) he's got some pretty creepy fans out there. He used to give out his email but got really creepy stuff from fans, so he stopped that.
And I'm absolutely positive he won't give out his address. It's too dangerous, even if he wasn't a popular author.
