So, long ago, on a forum not far away, the idea was presented that we should make a Chris Wooding fansite. But, alas, the idea perished on the starting blocks, and the Crooked Lanes went without a fansite. But! Along came a forum traveller who remembered the idea, and wished to revive it! She gathered her supplies (a keyboard, a CPU, a monitor, a bad story-like opening, and a link) and attempted to revive the long-lost fansite of yore. Unfortunately, she only succeeded in mentioning it once more, and not actually taking much action. So she hoped and prayed that putting the plot back into public eye would be enough... Ok, yeah, done with that. ^_^ Anyways. Anyone for trying to make a fansite for our favorite author? The first thread with the original idea was orokos.proboards55.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=42. I just thought it would probably fit better in the Suggestions board. ^_^

Re-reading the olde thread again. I am still all for a fansite. It got buried under lots of work which had to do with, gasp, real life. XD (lame excuse. But sadly true.)
So, are there still a considerable bunch of people interested in making a fansite called "The Old Quarter"? Or "The Weave"? (Though that might annoy any Wheel of Time-fans out there.) And what colour scheme? D:
Still, I won't have much time during July. Exams is the word. But don't you worry, after that I have time.
I only need help. D:

Well, our chat is called the Weave, so I think in this case, Old Quarter would win out.
But obviously, I am still all for it! ^_^

Here are a couple more ideas.
'The Spire' 'The Road to Ascendancy' 'Soulswatch Eve' 'The Poison Marshes' 'Shieldtown'

I really like The Old Quarter as a name, but I think that as The Crooked Lanes comes from Alaizabel, we should probably take the name from some of the other books like Aryeec is suggesting, especially considering the fact that the Weave is taken from TBP. It would just be nice to have names from a range of different books.
Considering the amount of people who got into Chris Wooding through Broken Sky, wouldn't it be good to take a name from there? Something like The Dominions, or Netherfane, or something like that? Well, maybe something better than that, but you get the idea.

"Chaos Engine" (not really suitable but maybe we could use that somewhere else) "Fulcrum" "Territory West 190" (this is some part of Orokos that has been run over by Resonants and it is suicide to go there) "Null Spire" (where the Patrician lives) "Kilatas"
<_<

I agree that the name should be from either Storm Thief or BKSky, as those seem to be the most popular of the names we haven't used. Using one from The Fade would be cool, too, though...I kinda like Territory West 190 though. ;D

I think it should be something from BSky, but I'm totally biased because that was the first thing of Chris's that I ever read. Also, the old fansites were all BSky themed, it seems like we should carry on the tradition. Especially since some of our members were on the old fansites. That said, I have no experience whatsoever in making websites so I'll be no help at all unless people need random ideas. >_< I remember one of the old forums or sites was called Gar Jenna, we could hop into the next section of BSky and call it Base Usido.

The old Parakka forum used to have a website, can't remember what it was called through... kinda fell apart because no one looked after it.
The idea of naming the site after a place in Broken Sky sounds good to me - Base Usido is good, or Fane Aracq or something along those lines. I can help with the coding/design/writing up on the website and etc, though me doing it to any particular deadline can be quite difficult (I'll spend quite some time working on my own sites, only to abandon it for months on end).

Well, if it's going to be a website specifically for this forum (you know, with a link at the top/bottom/side that says "Forums") then the name of the site should simply be The Crooked Lanes.
...Or not. That's just my take on it.
I'd be glad to write a couple of articles if you like, plus some web design if it's needed

Yeah, I'm not too sure what I'd call the fansite.
(pssst.....why not Orokos....)

I don't think the site should be just for the forums. I think it should be a fansite. We can put fanart up, and since we have a bit more contact with Chris than other people, we can put updates of things he said. Maybe. I mean, we do have contact with him somewhat, and could probably make some really cool articles and things. A new bio about him, some interviews, stuff like that maybe. Plus, it'll be a chance to sort of spread the word about him because he's still writing obviously and maybe if our site gets to be good enough, it'll get people to read more of his stuff. I know, with me, he was in my top 3 favorite authors, but he became my top favorite once he started posting. He became my favorite for his humor and his kindness to his fans. Kindness in that he tortures us with teasers and probably laughs at us after that, lol.
And Maliris, I'm more than willing to help write articles or updates, and however I can, though I'm not very good at coding. I know only the most basic of basic, mostly bolding text, inserting links and pictures, and stuff like that. But I'm online every day, basically, so I can help constantly. ^_^
Also...uh, what site did we want to use to host it? I have a Bravenet site, and it does have some nice things, but bad pop-ups that take up the whole screen and very limited layouts. So I'd say no for Bravenet. Any other suggestions?

Agreed. If we ever made a fansite it should be, well, a real fansite and not just be about the forum. Reviews, pictures, fanart, fanfiction, polls and most of all NEWS! D: I will ask around whether someone knows a good hosting site. I don't want those with so many ads that you can hardly make out the site underneath it. And I don't want it to look cheap. <_< But I will have work to do for uni now so until I can really start working on that we should sort some things out. I now am for light colours, not cheap black. But maybe mostly cold colours. *is a very cold person, you can tell* I like the idea of calling it something Storm Thief-related. I know that most fans know Chris through Broken Sky or Haunting but I kinda like the names in Storm Thief. I mean, really: Fulcrum? Null Spire? Genius. Busy busy.

The more I think about it, the more I really like "The Old Quarter" as a name. The trouble with names from Broken Sky or Storm Thief is that you really have to know the universe it's from to understand what it refers to, whereas with names like "The Crooked Lanes" and "The Old Quarter," if you get it, you get it, but if you don't, it doesn't really matter. As I said though, it'd be nice to have names from a number of his different books.
Had a completely random thought about calling it "The Ketty Jay"...it's a fun name for a ship, but I'm not sure if it works for the name of a fansite...

I'm sticking with a Poison on this one. *_* The Poison Marshes has my current vote.
