Since I really don't get along with Pullman's works and so never really gave a flying sporran over what happened to Lyra, I'm going to have to say Lucia by default.

I've don't know who Lyra is, so I'm going with Lucia. Even if I did know who Lyra is, I'd still stick with Lucia. She's my favourite character ever.

I'll refrain from answering, since I have no idea who Lyra is. But I'm not planning on reading those books, either. But I will say Lucia was a great character, lol. ^_^

They're certainly both very different characters, aren't they? It's a difficult choice as I love them both, but I think I'll go with Lyra. *Hides from angry mob*

hehe.
I personally...wow...I think I have to go with Lyra.
Lucia was marvelous, but the whole "fated to be doomed thing" has always rubbedme the wrong way, whoever the character. I adored Lyra' spunk and stubbornness.
I still loved Lyra. She kept fond memories of Anais throughout all three books...

Presumably you mean Lucia in that last sentence?
Lucia wasn't my favourite character in the series, but I don't really feel any way about Lyra.
Conversly, I often find too much 'spunk and stubbornness' in a main character to be off-putting. Unless it's Flash gordon, then he's great because he's a moron.

I think Lucia was cooler in a distant, colder way (espeacilly the Last Book) but the tone that PUllman used for Lyra was almost comical. I think Lucia is more 'artistic' while Lyra is more comical......... does ne one know what I mean?

I'm kind of indifferent towards both characters. XP I need to read both trilogies again.

Hmmm... actually. XD
Normally, I prefer the happy-go-lucky type of small girls in books. But as I haven´t yet read the Pullman-trilogy even though I wanted to read it for ages now, I will have to settle for Lucia. XD
Though I liked her more in book 1 and 2.
Will re-read the trilogy soon. I have forgotten a lot about things like politics and side-stories... *coughcoughcough*

I thought Lyra was just as artistic really, in her own way. she had more life. Lucia was on the verge of staleness at some points.

Conversly, I often find too much 'spunk and stubbornness' in a main character to be off-putting I totally agree, I find those sorts of characters really start to grate on my nerves quickly. Then again, I don't think there were many characters I actually liked in His Dark Materials. I think that, for me, it was the story that I liked, rather than the characters. Strangely, though, I sort of liked Mrs Coulter...and I'm not usually one to like villians, oddly enough. I prefer Lucia because she's such an intriguing character. I mean with Lyra, what you see is what you get, but Lucia had so many different layers to her personality, so she was more interesting to me.

Lucia... well, she was an interesting character, for sure. But there was just something very much unsettling about her that I didn't really... well she creeped me out. Very much. Lyra as the protagonist... I think I saw too much of her. I liked her in the first book. But slowly she just started losing that childish shine that drew me to her? If that makes sense. I didn't like her very much at the end. So, I'm going to have to say that I liked neither OR rather, I wouldn't be able to decide on which one was better. I mean, they're both very much Martyr's aren't they? Just, Lucia ended up dead while Lyra ended up sitting on a bench in a park. Actually, they're both really similar. Lookit! They even have an affinity for animals

Despite the fact I'm only in the first book of Braided Path, Lucia wins over Lyra.
I've never read His Dark Materials, but I saw the movie and couldn't stand Lyra. So Lucia wins by default.
