Someone must have been watching over me, as mine arrived on Monday! I've been working all week so haven't had a chance to read more than a couple of chapters, but have been impressed with what I've read so far

Hi Guys and Girls.
Firstly. HA. I got the Username Dfrey. You suck everyone that's not me! :-)
Secondly: I love the Ketty Jay novels. There were a random recomendation from Amazon.co.uk and I'm glad I got RF on a whim. Loved the thing. Pre-ordred BLC as soon as I could.
Thirdly. I guessing that that huge craft on the cover is the Ketty Jay? If it is though I find it odd. The book discribes the KJ as this short, stubby, ugly pos, but that craft of the cover is beautiful. Also the book doesn't say that the KJ has bubbles all over it, only the gun turrent on its back.
Also, is the smaller one of the out flyers?
Any views?

Cheers, dfrey, welcome to the Lanes!
I must admit I am not too sure myself how to picture the Ketty Jay... But I guess in my mind it did look slightly like that bulgy thing on the RetFalls cover. With some alterations here and there.
My copy of BLC only just arrived. I read it up to chapter 5 and have to say: I love it. The banter made me laugh out loud and it's kinda sweet that Frey cares. About the ship, the crew and stuff like that... I am looking forward to more of that. ;D
Crake is a poor bastard - I hope he gets better... >_>
And yay for that lost civilisation! Now, I need to get back to reading. Just wanted to drop by and say that it's bloody awesome already.
More coherent thoughts when I can tear myself away from BLC for more than ten minutes... i.e. when I have finished it, probably.

Hey all, D'aaaw, thanks Kath dfrey, None on the aircraft on either of the covers are supposed to be the Ketty Jay, or either of the outfliers. Basically I gave the artist a description of what aircraft in the world of the Ketty Jay generally look like, and he drew some random ones.

;P
While reading I kept thinking that that one airship's name reminded me of something and sure enough:
And all our yesterdays have lighted fools The way to dusty death.
I liked that.
And something else: reading BLC made me curious how the world would look on a map. Are there plans to include a map in the upcoming books?

"It is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing." As good a description of the Ketty Jay books as ever I've found As to the map, permit me to repost something I stuck up on the Song Of Ice And Fire forums a week or so ago: Nah, no map: I'm going all Abercrombie on yo asses with this one.
Seriously, there is method to it. I do have a big ole map myself but most of the places the crew visit are tiny little settlements and outposts scattered all over Vardia. If I included all them it'd be hopelessly cluttered. If I didn't I'd have to keep describing where they are in relation to various important landmarks so the reader could find them.
But apart from all that, the most important reason is, if I give you a map, I can't change it. While the map I have is pretty detailed, I want to be able to add things in the blank spaces if I need to.
To help you out a bit though, imagine a continent very roughly shaped like the Americas, except much vaster. The top half (North Pandraca) is mostly Vardia, except for a small chunk in the far north-west which is Yortland. There's a narrow waist, below which is Samarla, occupying almost all of South Pandraca (having absorbed Dakkad and Murthia five centuries ago). A sliver of the eastern coast is divided by a range of mountains, separating Samarla from the small territory of Thace. And Kurg is a huge island way off to the east of Vardia.
There's more, but you ain't got there yet...

I politely excluded that bit about the idiot from my quote but fair enough. Ah, I see. Well, that did help a bit. I'll just make my own now. ;D I must admit that I am fairly intrigued by the whole world. Wonder what more there is. So it's nice to know that more books are coming. :> (Oh and btw. The first Ketty Jay novel will be published in Germany next year and they already have a blurb up along with a "description" which roughly translates into: "Chris Wooding is the Joe Abercrombie of Spaceships." They'll be shocked when they find out it's airships. >_> Thought you might be interested. )

I sat myself down and read the whole thing in a day >__> but now I have to re-read.
And poor Crake indeed D; though I almost knew how it would be impossible, and almost wanted it to be, to boot. In the end having to let go seemed the only option realistic to keeping them in the book.
Still not sure about the manes, though...

Well I just finished this book myself (I know I know I'm way behind). I have to say not since I was a child have I been so utterly invested in and entertained by a book series. Such ridiculously fun adventure with such incredibly loveable but flawed characters. I can't WAIT for the Iron Jackal. Chris you've done it again.

I just finished BLC! I read about half it at normal speed then read the other half in two days, which is quick considering I'm also working on commission artwork X'D All I can say is I cannot wait til the 20th of October, I need the next one now!! X'D I have a feeling I've said this about every series Chris has released but I think this is the best one yet! Yeah, I honestly can't decide, they're all so different it's hard to compare, but Ketty Jay is shaping up to be one of my favourite series ever The characterisation is amazing, I love all the characters, even the ones I never thought I'd like! XD They're all so well-rounded and realistically flawed, and I can't believe how many names he's managed to come up with and make them fit the characters! XD I make up my characters' names, but I always have trouble with surnames once I've put all the effort into the first names, haha. XD I plan on doing some fanart for this series... I think I might only draw Frey and Jez and maybe Trinica because I would never be able to do any of the other character justice (and I may still ruin Frey and co yet with my kawaii desu animu style. I'm just praying Frey doesn't end up totally effeminate because that would be a disaster XD He'll look manly! I swear... X'D) Anyway. Yup. Rambly post. Just wanted to express my love for the series and my excitement for the next one!!

Is this the thread where I post my feelings about this book? BECAUSE I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT THIS BOOK.
This is probably my favorite Ketty Jay book so far (I'm not yet finished with The Iron Jackal, so I'm excluding it for now). I read this book in two days because it was actually physically impossible for me to set it down. Like, the laws of physics or whatever you wanna call it prevented me from parting with this book. I think I was camping with my family at the time, so there wasn't much else to do besides stare at the trees and stuff.
If there's one thing I need to get off my chest about this book before I explode into another fit of keysmashing, it's that I absolutely LOVED Harvin Grist. From the beginning of the book I knew he would eventually turn out to be the villain, but goddamn he was perfect to me. I don't even know if the author actually wanted to make him so gosh darn likable, but it happened, and he sort of became my favorite person in the book (besides my usual faves on the crew). A+ villain. And his death scene: holy crap. Gave me chills, man.
Anyway, I'm gonna make this short because I'm sure you guys are like, "Oh great, not this person again," after my Retribution Falls review (if you wanna call it a review--I think it was more of a meltdown). The Black Lung Captain was just as exciting as Retribution Falls, if not more so. It was fun, but also REALLY CREEPY--in a good way. The Manes story line was so mysterious and eerie and I love things like that. And Jez *__* I have such a Harkins-crush on her. And also Trinica. Trinica is perfect in every way.
All in all, this book was brilliant. Action-packed, mysterious, and I love that we got the chance to see new parts of this amazing world that Chris Wooding has created. It's so much fun.
