I'll be mildly egotistical and assume you're talking about me? It wasn't the criticism that annoyed me, it was the tone of the criticism. I'm sure you didn't mean to but you sounded incredibly patronising. It being in a private message didn't help, it was as if the problems you spotted were something embarrassing that you didn't want to publicly shame me with. It would have been much better to put it in the actual art thread like other members do, we're all friends here and we usually keep things in the open.
In fact, you've done it again here:
Essentially, you've just said comes off as "Not everybody wants criticism, which is stupid, but fair enough if you want to be stupid." Without the part in brackets it would be much less offensive, with the part in brackets it looks like you've said "Not everybody agrees with me (I'm still right, but fair enough if you want to be wrong)."
Do you see the problem?

Do you see the problem? I think you're reading way too much into some of the things I write. When I use brackets is just illustrate a quite muse or a side thought. When I’m writing posts, I tend to write what I’m thinking. To be honest, I think your taking this really personality and making a mountain out of a mole hill. So allow me to explain why I PMed you rather then write on the forum. I chose PM because A) that Calica discussion was still fresh in the mind of a lot of people, I felt it would be more tactful to PM you in private and give you my honest thoughts, rather then run the risk of a potential fight. B) comfortable as I felt, I still had some doubts about the forum so I chose to wait before I began to offer help < not meant to be sarcastic, arrogant or egotistical. C) I did like the piece, as I stated I thoughts the colours were nicely applied with a present skill, shading was excellent and the lines were well defined. I just felt the anatomy was a little off. As I stated I generally thought I was helping you. Perhaps it would have been better if I kept my mouth shut, but I thought it would be a good token of peace… how badly it back fired on me. I do admit that what I wrote probably sounded better in my twisted head, then it did on the paper, but to be honest I acknowledge that in the second PM. But really is this post actually going help?

Honestly, smaug, I have no problem with you, and it seems most of the forum agrees that you are not annoying. And I don't know the full story of what happened between you and shy, but I have to agree with her comment about the brackets. Criticism is essential to be a good writer, but the part in brackets made you seem...very egotistical, I suppose. As if you knew the only possible way to be a successful writer. I know that wasn't your intent. I really do. But as shy said, it worked better without the brackets. With them...you seem to be patronizing and mocking the person who doesn't want criticism.
But that's my take.
Anyways, I'm not trying to attack you or anything. I have no problem with you (especially after the Troll Escapades). I don't want to silence you either, but if you think you are offending everyone, maybe you should think a bit more about what to write? I am guilty of not thinking things through before I write them, and many times, I've been scared of the outcome. So I'm really not trying to say that you HAVE to or that you are indeed getting on nerves. As far as I know, you're not, for most people. I'm just saying that maybe that's a way to sidestep your paranoia about those things. You can still say what you think and feel and no one here will hate you for your opinion. Nor will we flame you for it. We may debate you, but it's not because we hate you.
Anyways. I'm probably sticking my nose where it doesn't belong. Terribly sorry, if that is the case.

Smaug, just try to read your entries with the eyes of those that will read them/those they are meant for. I think if you keep that in mind people might be less offended. I am sure those that want to improve appreciate constructive criticism. But any other form of criticism does not help and will only make everyone bitter. If one points out the wrongs one should also consider giving helpful advice how to make stuff better. And always keep in mind that this is your own opinion. The other person might disagree with you because s/he thinks it's okay this way. There's never only one way to do it. (Which is why I never liked Arts at school because there you had "good pictures" and "bad pictures" while seriously, if you think about it, there isn't something like "bad art"... it's tricky. But that's what I think, anyway.) But alas. This is the absence-thread and it applies to "members being absent" not "topic being absent". So~ back to topic?

Hmmm, on the subject I'll find a use for this post. I will be out tomorrow, and it is my birthday ( ) on saturday. I'll drop by in the evening on that day to say hi and consume cake with you all, but I probably won't be on much at all this weekend.

Ironically enough I sent that PM to avoid seeming arrogant. Raihor enjoy yourself.
