Oooh. I just had a thought.
In the ritual to bring yourself to Tall Jake's attention, there are six items - one of them being cat hair.
There are six enemies of Tall Jake. One of them is the cat queen.

Hmmm, good point. I hadn't thought of that before. Though, why you'd use his enemies to call him is beyond me, lol.

Arrogance from Wi Tall Jake's part I should imagine. Even he couldn't resist a little irony here and there...
The other items are a black feather, a twig, a tear, the person's hair and fire.
Perhaps Skarla represents the twig..? (EDIT: make that the other way 'round)

Can't be Skarla. She isn't one of the Six (or Seven now). The huntress with the bow was, which could still work.
And what would the Shard be represented by?

Yes, that's something that's been bugging me for some time now. The items could represent the Six but I am at a loss what the person's hair is supposed to be. XD The Shard could be the tear. Because it's shiny when light falls onto it. The black feather... well, no idea either. I doubt that it's "just for fun", though... we shall see. Something else: I tried counting the many times the number six appears but lost track after a while. The crocodiles are six-legged, six ingredients, six enemies of Tall Jake... and more. But I have no time to look them up now. Have to go! See ya!

There better be more than just that... Because that could be interpreted as an extremely obscure satanic message... Three sixes... But of course, that's totally ridiculous ;D

And of course Chris would never have anything Satanic in his books. Although, yes, I'm fairly certain there's more than that. I just read the book a few weeks ago and already I'm planning to read it again. But that's very interesting about the 6 theme. It can't be just a coincidence. I think all of us have read enough of Chris's books to know that he would make a mistake like that--to make 6 such a prominent...figure? I suppose. Anyways. I suppose the tear works, because the Shard was also underwater for a time. In an ocean no less, so salt water of the ocean, and the salt water in a tear--makes sense to me. The others of The 6 aren't known well enough to really say. We know the Queen of Cats (or rather, know of her), and the Shard. But, now I wonder. Perhaps the Queen of Cats has ulterior motives. Kady's cat tried to stop her from bringing the Shard back to Malice. Sure, it could have been because they didn't want T.Jake to get it, but what it there's more to it? Skarla said it herself, that the 6 are somewhat fickle. Maybe the Queen of Cats wants the Shard herself, or wants Tall Jake to continue to reign. Though, then, there's Andersen who obviously hated Miss Benjamin and vice versa.

Is it certain Skarla isn't one of the six...? I may be wrong, but it wouldn't be hard to hide. She may have ULTERIOR motives.
Of course, they all do...
I don't think the tear would be the Shard, as he was only in the sea because of the sea-monster Tall Jake sicked on him. "A creature, vast and sinuous, swam up into the sky: a blaze of light, a distant, dazzling squiggle. Then, from the depths, something enormous rose forth and enwrapped the light in many dark tentacles."
I think the Shard would either be the feather or the fire. The former because it was flying, the latter as it was described as giving off light. Also because a sea-creature would be particularly effective against fire.

It wouldn't make sense for Skarla to be one of the 6, and be that close to the Hunter. It's never that easy. And we know for certain that the Hunter is one of the 6. Besides, you'd think Skarla would have mentioned that little fact since she wants Tall Jake to go as well.
