...and she read it in 2 days. I guess she liked it. I want to re-read it now, after I re-read Storm Theif ;D . Because I didn't remember how much I'd forgotten until my mum said 'Peppercorn' and I was like ZOMG I FORGOTS!!!!111. Shocking.
Posting out of boredom.

I do that with Poison a lot. There's just so many reasons to re-read it over and over again! Same with most of his books. At first, I didn't want to read Poison because I had sort of skimmed over Haunting and thus didn't really enjoy it as much (though it did scare me so much I couldn't sleep one night, lol). So I wasn't really excited to read another book by him. But I eventually read Poison and it got me really hooked on his books. ^_^ So I owe a lot to Poison. <3

You found that book scary? Last night I was watching Ju-on (The Grudge, original japanese version) in the dark. And it's verrry creepy. I slept fine though ;D
Ya, as much as I love japanese horror, I'm getting myself off-topic.

Well, I was quite a few years younger (this was a year or 2 before Poison came out in the States), and had never read a scary book. Movies don't scare me, but Haunting did, lol. But I think that's a good thing. Means Chris is better at scaring folks than the movie people who make scaring people their life. ^_^

Same here. I like horror films because of their suspense and stuff like that. And the average feeling of "we're all gonna die down here!" is quite entertaining. But I still manage to sleep well after watching. Year long training of X-Files-watching!
It's cool that your mum had fun reading it. I kinda gave up giving Chris's books to my parents (or any other family members, that is). They're not really into fantasy, sci-fi, whatever and both aren't that fluent in English. When they caught me reading Alaizabel Cray in German, my dad was a bit appalled that I liked horror-literature... XD

Are they impressed that your English is good enough to read them? I know I am, but then almost nobody can speak a foreign language over here because we're used to our own language being the lingua franca.

I think they are a bit proud, yes... I owe it to English books and tv-shows. And video games, of course... Thanks to Chris, I learned a lot of usefull words. Such as "fulcrum". It's just that I haven't had the opportunity to apply it anywhere. XD

...I don't know what 'fulcrum' means.
And I have 2 important reasons why other countries are better at english then english-speaking ones.
a) Most of the time they start learning sooner and B) (that's right, capital B) so much media is in english with subtitles in other coutnries. Being surrounded by english is bound to help a great deal with the learning process! It's reasons like that are why I suck at German. Started learning aged errr.. 13 and stopped aged 16. And now I never hear much German so it fades away...

True, but they take it a lot more seriously in other countries. Here it's possible to go through the whole school system only doing a foreign language for 2 years. It's only the 'everyone speaks English' attitude that stops us having to learn a language from a young age too. It's just not seen as a priority.

Here it's possible to go through the whole school system only doing a foreign language for 2 years. It's possible here too, in thirteen years of school I only studied a foreign language for a year and a half (Italian). The school complained that no one studied languages, but they brought it on themselves because everyone wanted to study French, and they took away the subject, saying we had to go to Saturday school to learn it.

I took French onto GCSE, so I ended up doing it for five years. I can honestly say that I did not learn much because we're only really taught enough to pass the exam. It's a shame really, because I really enjoyed learning a new language... and getting the giggles when people wrote "Je suis" (I am) instead of "J'ai" (I have) and inadvertently called themselves dogs/cats/birds!
