Yes ~ No ~ Maybe ~ No Preference
self-explanatory
The poll locks in 30 days to give people enough time to get on here and votes can be changed before it locks.

I said yes. I just hope there's people in the same time zone as me to chat to, or it might be rather quiet... I'd probably end up talking to myself, hehe!

No preference, because I probably wouldn't use it and I don't think there's anyone here in my time zone anyway.

I'm an NorthWest US, I may be an hour or two ahead (or behind, I never really care enough to remember) of your schedule.

I know from experience that on relatively small forums like this, people talk almost exclusively on the chat once it's made available. It's easier and more fun than bothering to post in the forum. I had a forum with over 300 members that eventually dried up mostly due to this very thing...
But, this forum may be different because of its very international community and consequent varying timezones. (The other one was limited by the vast majority to America and a small UK population.)

The only thing I'm really worried about is the small number of truly active users. I've only seen 8 or 9 people on in the past month, but if somehow we could gain some more regulars.....ponders...

I vote Maybe.
Only because I wouldn't know how to use it whenever I wanted to XD

There'll be a chat box at the top of every page if it's like other forums I've been to. There should be an option where you can have private conversations or something. Any input on specifics Maliris?

Well, proboards has a feature called "Live Chat". I can create a Live Chat account and that should mean that there would be a chatroom here. It'd be embedded in the forum, I think. I haven't done anything like this before so my knowledge is kind of... not. But apparently this should work just fine... How long should we wait with the poll? So that more people can participate, though, apparently, most of the members are for a chatroom...

A Java-supporting IRC chat usually works best for instant messaging, but otherwise a forum chatbox is adequate - though in the end, the chatbox tends to become effectively a "Random Discussion" thread with no option to read the older posts, so can defeat the point.

I set it for 30 days, but i'm pretty sure most people who are active users have voted.

If it's Java-supported, I won't be able to use it at work, which is the only time I'm on the boards. Work comps suck. >_<

Isn't Java standard on all post-96 computers? I could understand an inability to use Flash, but... Anyways. Java's about the simplest language I can think of for a chatroom rather than chatbox (my concerns with the latter have been outlined above), and it also allows the chatroom to be an IRC one by nature, so home users can have the nice interface and functionality and whatnot. But I'm not an expert on programming languages, so there may well be something simpler for a chatroom. I suspect, though, that the choice is between Java + IRC, and a chatbox on the mainpage.

Hmm, ok, no Java flash or plugins work on my comp. Or rather, they're blocked. And the other IRC chats I've tried usually don't work either. >_< Stupid work.
But hey, ya never know. Sometimes work will be nice and not block something, so hopefully that'll be the case here. ^_^
