May I suggest then as for a first time novel, you don't write yourself so much as a character in your story, and that you create completely new characters that aren't based right on you?

I finally read all of the question thread 1 and 2! Now for my question:
So, Chris..... I can't think of a question, my mind's gone blank at the prospect of actually talking (well, typing) to my favourite author of all time! Hmmm. Ah, got one! It may have been asked before, but: Do you play video games, and if so what sort (I'm guessing either no or fantasy games)?

May I suggest then as for a first time novel, you don't write yourself so much as a character in your story, and that you create completely new characters that aren't based right on you? i hadn't thought about anything else after. i was gonna go with a shot at a "one hit wonder" and hope it goes well. after that.. not sure. perhaps if (big "if") the story is liked enough, i would try adding a fourth to the three. but after that no clue. hm.. i do have another story i could right but it'd be hard. i'm a person who finds it easier to write a series then one novel. it's hard for me to write short stories. i've only based one on me, and the others on the people i know, i have gone as far as to ask them if the characters based on them sound correct to them. since my stories are action stories, or at least this one is. i try to have them decide what weapons they would most likely use. anywho, to keep with this thread. chris, what type of vehicle do you use? (has this been asked before?)

Figured I'd help out a bit with this, but Chris answered a similar question in the first thread. Here's his post: But who knows, it's been a while. ^_^ He posted that on Feb 5th, 2007, so the answer may have changed a bit.

If that's still true, I'd suggest getting The Longest Journey and its sequel, Dreamfall. Those are amazing fantasy RPGs. In fact everyone should just go and buy them right now (my favourite story besides any of Chris' is the TLJ games). =D EDIT: I thought up a real question at last: How do you pronounce gaer bolga?? Oh, and I also would like to inform Chris that in Alaizabel he made one mistake! ( ) When they're going through the underground they pass through Arsenal station. Well, unless the football team exists in this world too (unlikely, eh?) the station would still have its original name, Gillespie Road which can still be seen written on the walls of the station. It had to be said, but I feel bad for correcting my role model

hmm, I never really questioned how gaer bolga was pronounced, though I did wonder about Calica (whether any of the "c"s were soft or not), and on an old Broken Sky site that shut down some years ago (some weird URL, it had gar jenna in it but other than that I don't remember it at all), various names with "aa"s were indicated as being pronounced "ar" (ie, macaan=makarn, Koth Taraan=koth tahrarn, and in an abberation they said that Elani= Elarnee) I was wondering how accurate this was.
and also, with this talk of video games: did you ever play the Fallout series?

though I did wonder about Calica (whether any of the "c"s were soft or not) I always thought the 'c's were hard. There's name pronuncations on the character cards, I've got them around somewhere.

I imagined 'Calica' had hard 'c's, like in 'calico' cats.
It surprised me when on the same website it said 'Aurin' was pronounced 'Oh-rin', I'd been sure it was 'or-rin'. Like in 'Aurelia'. Is that still considered to be correct?

I pronounce Aurin the same way as you, shy. Don't know if it's technically right or not, but it felt right to me to say it like that.

Thanks to Maliris, I was absent for a while and didn't haven't read the rest of the first thread. I always pronounced the "c"s hard too, but being a linguistic fanatic (I'd probably beat my head in agony if I heard you ppl trying to say my profile name, unless any of you happen to have a knowledge of Welsh) I was wondering what the official word was. On Aurin, I always pronounced it ahr'in but what I'm wondring is if we're using the same phonetical alphabet, we could all be saying the same thing and not realizing it.
