That's a good point, I wonder what Liss was doing during the whole climax. Probably sleeping during the confrontation scene. And I'm sure Casta told Liss some lie about Orna. But still...Well, if Casta did tell Liss that Orna was dead or something, Liss would probably have forgotten about it right away, knowing her. ^_^

Well, the book just goes to prove that there's ALWAYS an evil twin

Can't help but wonder what would have happened if they'd invented sunscreen . I'm still sort of confused about the Shadow Death though. Does it mean that people who experience it can go into the sun? I don't actually think it does, because Orna and the Sun Children don't go into the sun, but I still don't really know why it was significant. Unless it was really obvious, and I missed some big integral part of the book. Which is entirely possible ;D

I think the shadow death is just a kind of near-death experience. I don't know about anyone else, but if I'd been caught in the full glare of the suns, gone through a terrible sickness, almost died, then survived I certainly wouldn't shy away from the cracks in the blinds anymore.
I think it was important because by going through the shadow death she stopped being afraid of the sun, so when she needed to she could go back to the surface without the constant fear that would have stopped her before.

I thought the novel was brilliant. However, I thought Orna being in prison dragged on a bit. I only got more interested once she returned to Veya.
I didn't think Jai was dead, still don't.
Never saw the twist coming, otherwise I wouldn't have whinged to myself that as a villain, I felt Ledo was one-dimensional, which sucks. But then the twist came and that blew it out the window. Casta as Silverfish became obvious.
Liss rocks.

SPOILERS~ Aaaaha. It took me a while since The Fade was released to track it down at my local Kinokuniya. And I'll have you know I paid a hefty 30$ out of my savings for it! And considering my savings at the time was 50$ and has never ever gone back to such a large amount... well, it was alot D8 AAAANYWAY. As much as me complaining about the cost of the book is amusing, I have to say that I'd say it was possibly one of the best things I've ever bought (Ascendancy Veil aside). As many of you have mentioned above, I personally loathe first-person with almost every fibre of my being. Sure, the connection between the reader and the protagonist could be perceived as a positive thing, but once again, it’s really hard to picture the world and the protagonist him/herself. Of course, I could see the world much more clearly than I could see Orna. I thought it had a somewhat... crystalline and damp quality to it? Or like a musty and dirt-filled air. Something along those lines XD Buu-uut, as always, this book was fantastic. So I figured I might as well just absorb the fact that it was First Person. Which was a good thing because... ohgod it was just THAT good. I guess my favourite character will have to be Casta. Either Casta or the whip-wielding Vamsa who appeared for a grand total of two lines XD. Since Vamsa only appears for a reeeeeeally short amount of time (I’ll have you know, I have an obsession with whips and the fact that you mentioned Vamsa and Jutti but didn’t really expand on them sort of irked me =C), we’ll have to go with Casta. Casta was one of the most 3D characters that I’ve ever come across. In my opinion, she embodies the true double-faced persona of humankind. How we all have the capability of being nice and cruel at the same time, and yet also have their own selfish agenda. I thought Casta’s vehemence towards the... the... the dude Liss was going to marry was sort of strange at the time, but now I understand. Of course, such... such fierce twin-ling love o-o It was rather unexpected. Orna was also fantastic. I sort of had a spasm of sadistic laughter when I read the part where she left uhm, Charn behind. All in all, The Fade was a lovely book, definitely one I keep on me when I go travelling. I just wish... well, I thought it was a bit short. Expansion on a few of the briefly mentioned things would have been lovely. But I guess when I say expansion... the things I would have liked to be expanded probably weren’t important enough for it anyway. And that probably made no sense D8 But this is just my rambling opinion on a fantastical and awesomely cool book Luminous.

Orna was also fantastic. I sort of had a spasm of sadistic laughter when I read the part where she left uhm, Charn behind. Yeah, it was kind of stupid of him to think that his victim of attempted rape would really want him along.

Very true, lol. I probably would have done the same as well. ^_^ I can just imagine what he was saying after she left. Things that would no doubt be edited like crazy for the young'ins. ^_^

Actually... I do sorta wonder what the Gurtans did with Charn. I mean, even if it was him who spilled on them, wouldn't they kill him anyway for helping them? Charn... ahha. His choices were so limited in the end. Of course, then there's the theory that he might've gone 'good' and just kept his mouth shut about it...
And then the Gurtans just magically figured out that the SunChild, Female Eskaran and the Khaadu have gone XD
Daarn, just re-reading the passage where Orna mentions the various people in the Cell makes you wonder. I'm curious about these Umbra... since Umbra relates to the Darkness and and and then there's the Banchu and Ya'Yeen. Such quaint names. That hint to so much mooore owo

Ya'Yeen are decribed later in the book, they're pretty interesting.
I don't think there's a normal woman alive who wouldn't have left Charn behind.
