Your style is very visual and action packed very cinematic. What kind of movies do you like? Your favourite films and directors. And what're your favourite comic books? And what about video games?

Hey Chris, I am doing a report on you for a school project and I thought it would really cool to get firsthand info from you, so I have a few questions if you don't mind. Most of my info is from your site.
I saw that you travelled alot. Could you talk about your travels? Especially when you went to Africa and your friend got mauled!
What is the name of your band? It may have been on your site but I didn't see it if it was. What do you play in your band and what type of music is it?
Any interesting info that would be good for a report??

So... many... questions... Ok, sorry if some of these are brief, I have a backlog to clear up it seems. Of my fantasy books, there's nobody that really resembles me. In the earlier books, well, Jay's from CRASHING had a bit of me, Cal from KEROSENE had a lot of me, and Wren from ENDGAME had a fair bit of me as well... come to think of it, so did Davey from CATCHMAN... But they're all about how I felt at different times, around when I was 16-20, so I'm different now. When I write fantasy tho, the characters aren't so much like me, because they have to deal with fantastic situations. Who knows what I'd do when faced with a slavering horrible psycho death beast. Probably ace him with a fireball, I suppose, but we'll never know, will we? *braces himself to offend everyone here* No, 'cause I hate Myspace with a passion. And Facebook. And Friendster. Sorry Wanna go to Egypt and see the Temple of Karnak, the pyramids etc. I'll go to South America when my Spanish is up to scratch and go see Machu Picchu (among other things) if it hasn't been trampled into the ground by tourists by then. And I want to go to Iceland. That'll do for starters. Generally, don't like 'em. I find they tend to substitute fighting for plot. Evangelion was the exception, but I still got really bored during all the fights. Think I answered this before. I don't have one, is the short answer. Probably Slayers, cos I'm way highbrow like that. I find it's not a good policy, because there's the danger or accidental and unconscious plagiarism, and I'd rather stay friends with them! So I keep quiet about the specifics. That's gonna take twenty pages to answer. Short answer (at the moment, anyway), in a typical day I get up, go to a cafe, work for about 7 or 8 hours (or less on a bad day), then either go out with friends or go home and do home things. Nope.

It's happened before, but I always try to change it if it does. However, certain themes end up slipping in sometimes, which I have to consciously try to stop myself using. Certain character types too. Nowadays I try make a list of subtext themes I've used in previous books and avoid them, but it doesn't always work. Neither really, just kids with no social skills and huge hormone imbalances. They just started being inappropriate. Getting mad at me when I didn't write back to them within 24 hours of them sending me an email, that sort of thing. There was a lot worse, but I guess it's not public-forum material. Then I had one girl's parents write to me to ask them to behave because they thought she might listen to me. Like... um? Thank you! Sure, if I'm asked. The States is a lot of fun. It's not my choice though, it's up to the publishers... in this case Scholastic US. Sorry, I don't know. And np about the double posting, don't worry about it.

Not sure who qualifies as most of them became main characters by the end. Was rather fond of Aurin and Peliqua, and I always liked the Koth Taraan. In TBP, I ended up quite liking Nomoru, cussed little sod that she was. Sometimes (as with her) I intro a character just as a minor part and they end up taking over and muscling in on the story... As with authors, I don't pay attention to directors when I choose a film: I'm all about the story. Favourite films (no particular order): Ring (Japanese version), Cube, Spirited Away, Shawshank Redemption, lots more I can't think of now. Just watched Kairo which was spooooky and is disturbing me as you read this... Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind by a mile. Best fantasy story ever told. I like the Elder Scrolls games (porridging on Oblivion at the moment); Final Fantasy series; really liked Jade Empire; think I lost an entire summer when I was 14 to Ultima V; Beyond Good and Evil is fantastic, wish they'd make some more; and so on. Loved the early Resident Evils too. I tend to like RPGs most because of the storyline; if you do a really good story then you get such an immersive experience. Videogames are a storytelling medium that half the world hasn't noticed, but they can be so powerful on the rare occasions that someone really gets it right. Yay! ;D The Africa thing was when I was staying with my friend and her parents in Port Elizabeth, SA, and we visited a nearby cheetah sanctuary. We were playing around with a cheetah cub and it took a liking to her shoes, and cheetah cubs are actually pretty strong. So she was flailing around trying to escape this little cheetah and we were cracking up and doing nothing to help. It was only afterwards she showed us the bruises on her leg and we realised she was actually in pain Travels: Ok, in short, I've been to the States four times now: stayed with a friend in Santa Barbara and did Vegas and the Grand Canyon, then came back and backpacked around the East Coast and midwest for a couple months, then came back to do some toury stuff and go stay with a friend in San Francisco, then later stayed in Laguna Beach (O.C. territory) for a couple weeks with my then-girlfriend and her very lovely parents. I did a bunch of other backpacking trips too, really because I felt I wanted to go see things and because I'd get itchy feet in Britain (hence why I left). Usually I go on my own, because I like to meet people on the way: that's half the fun. I backpacked from Singapore up the Malaysian peninsula to Thailand. Went to Japan for a little while. Went round Scandinavia (great countries, not so much fun to backpack as everyone is too poor to do anything due to the cruel exchange rate). And went all round most of Europe with some friends on a Railpass. Four months ago I moved to Madrid, so when it gets warm again I'll go travelling around Spain. The backpacking thing has jaded for me a bit now (after a while you realise you're just meeting the same person over and over... the Archetypal Backpacker TM) but I still have a bunch of places I'd like to visit: see up the thread.

I don't play in a band any more: I had to give it up cos I broke my ears. And because I was moving to Madrid and I couldn't have any ties back home. I used to play bass in remainderfour, and before that I played guitar in a band called Otherwise, before that in a comedy ska-punk debacle called How To Steal Food, and so on and so on back until I was 14. You can still find Otherwise stuff if you look, and somehow remainderfour made it onto iTunes (!!!) or you can find it on amazon I guess. Dunno how to describe the music. Loud and annoying?
I think just about everything about me that I want to be public knowledge is on this site or on mine!

Does travelling inspire you? I mean, when you wander through different countries, meet different people and such do you get the ideas for your characters or worlds? Or do they spawn from sudden assaults of creativity when you´re at home, sipping coffee - unsuspecting?

*braces himself to offend everyone here* No, 'cause I hate Myspace with a passion. And Facebook. And Friendster. Sorry so no poorman's websites? (sites like xanga, myspace, etc. for people who either don't want to pay, or can't afford to buy or rent a server) don't have to answer that, just thought it's a clever name for those sites. by the way, i've been having this problem and i was wondering what you do if it happens to you: when working on a project, if you found another story(from someone else) that seemed similar to your own (key traits, plot, main idea), what do you do? i'm guessing it all depends, right? if you do get to tour the states, would hawaii be on your list of wanting to see? if so, i should say that in their own ways each island here has their diffrents and similarities. by the way, sorry about the redundent questioning.. i have a bad habbit of doing that (i tend to do that alot with my freinds) oh here's a question... i don't think was asked.. um.. if it's alright to ask.. if it's been answered, again sorry. what relign are you? what do you believe in? when working on a project, do you imagine what could happen to it (in the good ways -becoming a game, movie, etc.)? if not how do you keep yourself from going into that thought? Generally, don't like 'em. I find they tend to substitute fighting for plot. Evangelion was the exception, but I still got really bored during all the fights. considering your not a mech fan i guess the xeno (Xenogears, Xenosaga Ep. I, II, III) series is not.. one of your favorites?
