I hated her, she can't do anything, she loves everyone for who they are on the inside, not helpful in orokos, remember she wouldeve died if rail diden't find her first, so she sticks out like a sore thumb and I wanted her to die! I know I'm mean , I am but its all true, and I can find paseges on every part of them if you want me to.

I think that's a little harsh. After all, how strong are you in real life? If someone suddenly deported you to, say, a war zone, would you kill all the weak people because they needed help to survive?
I thought Moa was a nice touch of reality; growing up in the ghetto with almost nothing to eat but nutrient gruel most people would be weak and feeble like her. She doesn't let it hold her back. It says right at the start that she's the best lockpick in the city and that it's her and Rail as a team who are some of the best thieves, so I'd dispute the claim that she can't do anything. Bear in mind as well that it's essentially her loving people for what they are inside that lets them escape the Null Spire and the city.

I agree with shy. Besides, it's just quite nice to see a character that isn't physically strong for once. After all, how many people in real life can say they are anywhere near as strong as the majority of book characters? If you can, then that's great and you're lucky, but I sure can't.
I think that Moa shows there's more to strength than muscles and athleticism, and I thought it was a wonderful thing for Chris to write a character like her.

I didn't care for Moa's character either, but I didn't want her to die or anything. I agree with shy and Becca. She served a purpose, as good characters are supposed to do. Maybe she's naive, and maybe she's weak physically, but Orokos needed that. Even Rail wasn't all that strong. She was strong emotionally and somewhat spiritually, to balance out Rail's relative strength of body. He was weak in the ways that she was strong.
Besides, imagine how short the book would be without Moa. It would stop only a few pages in, right when Rail gets stopped by the door that Moa unlocks.

Zemira, I believe that last aside was some of your finest work.

Lol, why thank you. Sad, isn't it? When you try to do something well you often fail, but when you don't try, you do better than you ever have before.

Yarr, that defeats the purpose of me writing: "and it was Moa who made Vago remember who he was at the end which saved all their lifes!" because they wouldn't even haven gotten that far. Instead this: as I probably wrote somewhere already, I liked her because she was so normal. Once I thought: "Yes, exactly! I couldn't outrun them either! I suck at running!! Even if I was pursued by a horde of orcs, I couldn't get much farther than a few meters. I would tell my team mates 'Running? You're kidding. Nah, go one without me.'" She had other qualities and she and Rail were a wonderful team.

The orcs in Lord of the Rings did have the stamina of a cross country god, though. I feel tired just thinking about them.

I believe the word you're searching for is post-apocalyptic.

But the book was already depressing enough. An ending where everybody dies would have been a bit too much. It needed some kind of positive ending, don't you think?
Post-apocalyptic scenarios need a positive or at least optimistic ending. That's what I think anyway.
That was off-topic. Gee. XD

I like Moa. Not only because she's not super fit (I mean - think 100m sprint. If someone was chasing me I would run approx. 16 seconds then get caught and eaten (or whatever). Who here can actually do half the stuff people do in action books/films?), but she's kind like a normal (in this society) person too.
We can all say 'oh yeah: I'd survive. I'd be kickass and cruel and come out top.' But I bet 95% of people just couldn't.

I agree. As I said on a chat for one of my poems, I apparently run like a sp00n. Or a duck. ... wait, did I say apparently?
I completely empathize with Moa.
*Spoilers*
It broke my heart when she had to tell Rail that she didn't know how to swim. And when she "died"... I was like "Noooooooooooo" for ages, then when he almost kissed her, and she was alive, I did a little dance around the room.
Does anyone have any particular bands that reminds them of Storm Thief? Or is it just me? The music by Metric's Grow Up and Blow Away album just works some how. I always think of the book when I listen to certain songs off that album. Just Curious

I really loved Moa. She's just great in the way that... I don't know, it's just how she's a normal person, you know? So many books have heroes who are like dashing, bold, break-through-a-wall-with-their-fist kind of guys. Moa adds a sense of reality. It has been said, but she was just an excellent character. Not to mention personality. I think we'd be buddies ;D Also, I did a little dance around the room. Aww!
