Yis! Comes out Hallowe'en time, I believe, in the States (but not in England, AFAIK). Mine is a spooky Victorian ghost story in an Alaizabel stylee but nastier... Also out now I think is 'This is Push' a collection of new stories from all the authors on the Push imprint (which for those outside of the US is an 'edgy' teen imprint which printed Crashing and Kerosene). I have a story in that too, very short, written in about 2 hours while sitting in a cafe in Ealing hating everyone... and can't you just tell when you read it

*sniff sniff* I was at the bookstore yesterday, and they didn't have "This is Push" in stock. Amazingly, they HAD had it at some point, but not when I was there. :-( They had an option to order it, but it took at least 7 days for it. So, I'm going to wait till next weekend to try to order it (because I'll have money then). In the meantime, I sent Chris Wooding more money, and bought the first book of The Braided Path. ^_^ It was all of $7.99 (American), so it's not much money, but some. They didn't have the second book in stock, otherwise I would have bought all 3.
Now, all my collection needs is Endgame, BKSky, and Catchman. And I shall have all of his books! Well, all of the ones that are released...

Uh-oh...Seregwen just got a special preview copy of Restless Dead....I'm stiefing it probably today. ^__^ I'll let her tell you what she thought, but she did say that Chris's story was the best, but was there ever any doubt? ^_^

"The House and the Locket" was really good ^_^ It freaked me out too, especially (how to say this without giving stuff away...) when they were in the attic. It reminded me a lot of the scene in The Exorcist when Regan's mother goes up to the attic. It was definently my favourite in the book, but then, I'm biased ^_^

I just finished it myself not more than 10 min ago, and it was definitely the Chris Wooding we know and love!
I'll try not to give it away, but it was VERY creepy at times. I had the shivers for a while after reading it. ^_^ It was quite reminiscent of Haunting as it was set in Victorian London. Plus, when he mentioned Whitechapel, I just had this huuuge grin on my face. What's also nice is that there was quite a bit of his brand of humor in the story.
I'm biased as well, but I think it was the best story in the book.
All in all, I'd give it 2 thumbs up. A very good story~! ^_^

Comes out Hallowe'en time, I believe, in the States (but not in England, AFAIK). UK Amazon says October 1. It already seems to be out in America...my sister has an account on amazon.com...hmm, methinks I smell the whiff of a scheme...unfortunately, she's in London at the minute, so there's nothing I can do for now Not to mention the current postal strike.

The Restless Dead arrived today (on Thursday). Although the sun was shining when I read it it was pretty scary! I did read it four times, each time finding some new elements full of foreboding or irony.
SPOILER don´t read the rest of this post if you haven´t read The House And The Locket SPOILER
First and foremost, Lizabeth was, well, creepy. I do like her but her way of making her future-husband stop his wandering is, erm, unusual. O.o" Whenever someone says something along the lines of "you´ll always be mine" I cannot fight the feeling that this is not really romantic but rather unsettling, yes. But that´s Lizabeth for you. Second, Henry. He is an interesting character. I mean, after all, he is the one with the immoral thoughts when it comes to, well, adultery. He is also the one who doesn´t want to go look for the crying child because he fears for himself and I mean only himself. He lets the narrator climb to the attic first and only follows when said narrator, who btw is nameless, has lit some candles. Henry is a coward. I still wouldn´t kill him just for that... but well... *cough* Oh, and something that made me smile, er, nervously: Henry gets to sleep in the child´s bed. In Henry´s bed. And... oh, I just love that! The narrator actually sleeps in his own bed! These tiny bits you can find when reading it four times in a row because it´s only then that you can fully understand the meaning behind them, these tiny bits make me smile. I am babbling. I am sorry. XD It´s just that I really felt a chill tonight when I had to walk a few steps to get to the car. And it was not because it was night and cold outside.
I love it to bits, so, Chris, I guess I´ve got to say: Really, really, really well done! °v°~
