I think the reason the Eragon movie was bad was because the book was bad. So I wasn't totally astonished and angered. However, since The Haunting of Alazabel Cray was a good book, I'll be really disapointed if it's made into a horrible PG-rated movie.

Books into movies go bad when the directors take liberties with the original work.
I'm juggling the notion of never seeing The Golden Compass (what a daft name!) because from what I've seen, too many liberties have been taken, and I can't bear to see a story I cherish that much be degraded by such a thing.
I bet they'll cut out the bears' fight in Svalbard. D: Or at least most of the blood, and flying limbs.

Ok, I don't know the latest news about the movie, but on his website, Chris Wooding said the movie script would probably upset the purists out there. Which means to me, he's cutting a bunch of characters. And changing things around. As long as he keeps Cathaline, I'll be happy though! *swoon* As for the cast, my friend and I have cast and re-cast Alaizabel Cray so many times, lol. We only have a few roles we think would be really good: Tom Felton as Thaniel (he's got the hair, and he should be able to play Thaniel well enough.) and Hugo Weaving as Stitch-face. He was very good as V in V For Vendetta, and Stitch-face isn't that different of a character! Other than that, I have no clue... Hugo Weaving definitely deserves the part of stitch face, his performance in V for Vendetta was splendid! (while reading the book, i always imagined stitch-face's voice to sound exactly like V's ;D

Yah, the characters are like long-lost brothers! Or not. Wow, their mom would have been very old by the time she had V, lol. ^_^

I could see V being Stitch-Face's great-great-great-great grandson... or something ;... if SF ever found a woman that he didn't want to gut like a fish. Kinda makes you wonder if SF likes female sociopaths or not...

oh, it's wonderful to hear that it's at least at New Line, AND that the script will be going through further editing still when it's picked up. Eragon itself was very disappointing - though I believe at New Line, it stands a chance of a bigger, more suitable budget, and seeing as how the script's being written by Chris Wooding himself, I believe it's in good hands - whatever the rating ^^. I have no particular people in mind to cast, only I'd personally politely disagree about Tom Felton - PERSONALLY being the keyword as I don't really like his face and have a different image of Thaniel. If they could spend a long time gathering fans' opinions and hunting for the right new people though (like they did for Harry Potter) perhaps it'd come out just as good. You never know. (:

Yeah, Tom Felton is kinda....well, he could work, but personally, I think a no-name could do just as well. Tom Felton would probably bring in more of an audience though. But Hugo Weaving is my main choice for Stitch-face. Chances are better than good that he wouldn't be cast as him, but we can still dream. ^_^

Wow, thats a lot of comments to go through! I think that Alazibel would make a great action-thriller movie. For the cast, I think it would be best for no names to be the main characters and better known actors for the smaller roles. ~Kinda like Hairspray in a way~ hmmm *deep in thought*

I personally think that the Eragon books are pretty good. It may be about humans, elves, dwarves, and dragons, but it is better than most others of the same type. The movie was an abomination.

"The problem with casting by age is that, where are you going to find a 17-year-old who can act well enough to play Thaniel?" Excuse me? I act with 15-year-olds that are proffessional quality. I believe that the actors should be around the age of the characters that they play; it kills me to see actors who are clearly in their mid-twenties playing high-schoolers. Also, they should cast unknowns as the main characters because it just works so much nicer like that when they turn books into movies. Cast as many well known actors for the supporting roles as you want. That way, the book fans will not be horrified at seeing so well known actor playing their favourite character and the well known supporters will bring their fans the the cinema. One other idea... open auditions, in the UK and America. First off, there are tons of really good actors (especially teenagers) who don't have the money to get an agent or join a union. There are also the people who live in small towns that would have to uproot their family to go to some city and live their life going to auditions scheduled by an agent. Secondly, most American actors can talk in British accents. Especially stage actors. A lot of the plays we do here are English or take place in the UK and British accents are really catchy. Plus most of us on the East Coast have parents and grandparents from the UK and Ireland. OK, I'm done ranting now...

Judging by almost every child actor I've ever seen in a film, "professional quality" doesn't usually amount to "act(ing) well enough"...

I wouldn't mind grabbing stage actors. I think they can generally act better than movie/television actors. But that's a generalization, and there are obviously exceptions.
And...I'd really rather stick to British actors...A fake British accent can be one of the most painful sounds you can hear. >_<
Siiiigh, I really wish this would actually get made. Even if it was horrible...It's better than just speculating on the boards.

Oh, dear. Kids can't act?! You've been watching the Disney Channel, haven't you?
Yeah, any fake accent done badly is painful. I come from an area that doesn't really have an accent (well we do, but it's completely bland and flat) so people from my area have a tendency to pick up on whatever accent they hear. Personally, I find it VERY hard to keep my native accent around people who speak differently.
But, I agree that a majority of people can't do an accent different from their own without being next to someone who talks like that. There'll be people who'll be like, "I'm talking in a British accent," and you'll just be thinking, "Yeah.... that's sorta British, but it sounds like nails scraping on a chalk board."
