Hello there!
I was thinking (uh, no!), why not make a first real thread? Maybe people will start to post something. XD
This thread will be about the three parts of The Braided Path. It is a rather spoiler-ish thread. So, if you chose to post something containing spoilers in here make sure you´ve marked the spoiling parts sufficiently. We don´t want to make people cry.
I think I´ll just start. °v°~ What made me love the trilogy was the new aspects and the rich world it was set in. I think, reading these books has also improved my English. I mean, sometimes the lexical items were rather comlicated but they sounded nice. And fitted in rather nicely. I liked Kaiku. But I guess, I wouldn´t have liked her that much if she had stayed the way she was in book one. I like her self in the last book. She rocked! Seriously. I was very fond of the Weavers! They were creepy, crooked and wicked! And so viciously insane it was simply fun watching them (explode).
I think my favourite is the second book. It´s just that reading trough it always made my pulse speed up. XD The cliff-hangers at the end of every chapter was sometimes keeping me from catching enough sleep as I had to read on. °...° But it was worth the sleepy, red-rimmed eyes and the yawning the following day!
So, now it´s your turn my pretties! Post! Explain and have fun discussing everything. °v°

I think the series started off at a steady pace and gradually got faster and faster as you read through it. So much happened at once that it felt longer than a three book series. And it was very, very hard to put it down once you got into it.
Kaiku was a very strong character. It's rare that a female character is put as the main character, it's even rarer that so many female characters were in the limelight. Tsata was my favourite of the male characters, and his society was so cool (everyone helps out the others, that's their way).
I plan to read this again soon~ Honest.

That´s true. I haven´t really read many books where the main character was female. Or if I read them, these females weren´t that strong as Kaiku. She doesn´t really need protection anymore. xD
These Okhamban folks were juuust lovely. Tsata was so nice. And I loved book two for the chapters where Kaiku and Tsata were hunting Abberants together. *heart* Sweet, really.
I want to be a member of the Red Order too... ._.

The Skein of Lament is probably my all time favourite book ever, most especially for the abberant hunting chapters.
Favourite character wise are the three most schemeing people in the entire series, Cailin tu Moritat, Avun tu Koli and Asara. I also liked the third book for the fact that at the end, nothing had really changed from the first book, merely the Red Order took over from the Weavers.

When I read the first book some weeks ago, I thought "this story is quite alright, oh with all the twists and unforeseen turns, but do I really want to read through it again? ... hmm maybe not."
But now that I'm finished, this has definitely changed and I'm pretty sure that I'll start over sooner or later. Probably read the orignal instead of the translated version.

Yes~ you totally should read the original version! You could buy the overkill-version: all three in one big book. Although that would probably smother you when you want to read it at night in bed. °~°
How is the translation, though? I mean, apart from these, well, strange titles.
How did they translate Aberrant?

"Ausgebürtig" Well, not knowing the original version it is kind of hard to judge the translation. But I didn't stumble across anything that blatantly hurt my eyes (or brain). I particularly liked some German words, like "Würzkloß" or "Knorpelkrähe" or even "Geblütskaiserin" although that would probably sound awkward if you're used to reading "blood empress" (hehe, I know that one from the book reviews!) ... I also like the word "Büchse" for "gun", it sounds so old-fashioned and generates this image of a heavy, bulky musket. Words I didn't like... hmm... if there were, I suppress the memory. ... and I'd like to have the "three in one" version for my book shelf, but given that the only opportunity for me to actually read is on the underground on my way to work, it wouldn't come in handy.

"Würzkloß"... sounds like a nickname I´d choose. Well, if they got grammar and spelling then I´m happy. [Almost happy.]
Still, Aberrant has this ring to it. "Ausgebürtig" sounds too weak. Given that these Aberrants sometimes have mutations, are twisted and weild awesome powers... But it´s true, I had wondered about a fitting translation myself. And didn´t come to a satisfactory conclusion.
"Würzkloß"... awwww~

Mutant just won't do, eh?
I think "Ausgeburt" sounds pretty nasty. Nastier than "Missgeburt". I think it's probably the best possible translation.

"Würzkloooooß"!!!
Ausgeburt der Hölle! Mwaha. Yepp, sounds pretty nasty.
Oh, how do they curse? It´s "Heat´s blook!" in English. And they greet each other with "Daygreet!". What is that in German?

Let me think, I'm still at work and I don't have any of the books with me right now.
"Gruß zum Tage" - I think.
... nope, can't think of the common swear word right now - I'll look it up later if I don't forget.

I have clearly GOT to read these books in German. I take German for A level so maybe it would help, especially since if i get really stuck I already know the story...
I almost always like the first book best out of any series (I'm a 'beginning' person) but I absolutely could not put down the third book when they were in the Forest of Xu. the visual description was so stunning and the suspense was unbearable!

That's true. I just saw the stuff in front of me - the creepy violet lighting and such...
