Review:
The story without spoilers: The siblings Ryushi, Kia and Takami live with their father Banto on a small, quiet farm called Osaka Stud. When their father introduces a little girl called Elani to them they don´t yet know that their lifes are about to be changed for ever. Their sheltered lives are suddenly threatened when the farm is assaulted by the king´s soldiers, trying to catch Elani. Ryushi, Kia and Elani manage to escape on the back of a wyvern and must watch in horror as Banto is executed by a masked warrior. Depreved from their family and home they cross paths with the underground organisation Paracca who has sworn to rid the Dominions off the tyrant Macaan. Ryushi and Kia are plunged into a fight between the empire and the rebels which both of them didn´t want to be part of. The world(s):As every single Wooding book, this one has a world constalation different from the other books. Ryushi, Kia and Elani all live in the world called the Dominions. It is almost identical to our own world, without the cars and planes, though. They have a sun and moon cycle and look like humans look. The fantasy-elements are Wyverns, monsters and the so called Spirit Stones. These Spirit Stones are embedded in the spine of individuals and allow their owners to cast magic. Spirit Stones come in many colours. For example, Kia has six Spirit Stones in her spine who are of red colour. She can control earth and create a giant Golem to fight for her or form tunnels into solid stone. Ryushi on the other hand can control air, having Stones of blue colour. There exists another world apart from the Dominions. It´s called Kirin Taq or Tweentime as Elani calls it. It is a parallel world, something like a shadow of the Dominions. The sun is an eclypsed sun with a purple corona. The change of day and night doesn´t exist; it always stays in this twilight state. The people of Kirin Taq are gray-skinned and have eyes the colour of cream (they rock. Totally! I adore them.). The artwork:In 1999, when Chris started to write BSky, he was terribly obsessed with anime/manga and japanese series like Escaflowne or Nausicaä fromt the Valley of the Wind. Thus he tried to write something that resembled the anime-style. Steve Kyte supplied him with the artwork and gave Kia and Ryushi faces. His style mixes comics with the Japanese manga style and in my opinion looks good. On the first pages of each book are pictures of the characters that are introduced in this volume. In between, you can also find pictures of either new characters or monsters. The covers are nicely coloured and often show a certain scene. Like Kia beating up soldiers on the cover of the first volume. Poor soldiers. Why I liked BSky:After reading Alaizabel Cray I decided to read his other works, too. I bought the first part of Broken Sky and was positively suprised. The book was really good. The start of Ryushi´s and Kia´s journey and the base for conflicts yet to come where given. And I wanted to know what happens to them. I wanted to know who dies and who survives. I wanted to meet the bad guys and I wanted to see the other artworks, too. The story evolves, the plot thickens and with every sentence the interest grows. And what´s more, you have lots of character development. That´s why I like BSky. It is a rich story set in a fantasy world that differs from others. What else is there to say? Nothing, except: Buy it! Seriously, if you love inventive worlds, a whole bunch of interesting and colourful characters, funny fialouges and breathtaking end battles go on! Buy it! You won´t regret it. And trust me, the review is just a glimpse of what´s yet to come. You´ll be stunned... the story still surprises me when I think about it. See you around~! - So there. I tried to write a review. °v°~ Dunno if it´s that good. But I wanted to write something about BSky. That series is awesome...

From the moment I caught a glimpse of these books on the shelves of Walden books I knew, somehow I just KNEW that it would be the most amazing thing I would ever read.
It was.
After I bought the first one I barely put it down (it's got a hot chocolate stain because of this) then, a couple months later I got #2, and readit with equal passion, and then I started the search for #3, which proved to be impossible to find anywhere. I searched for ages, ordered it from everywhere I could think of, asked all my freinds if they had it, and no one ever did. Then I gave a ride to a boy named Jeremy, and we got to talking about books so I thougt "what the hey?" and asked if he had ever read the series. He had, and he had book 3. I could've kissed him. I propmtly developed a huge crush on him...three years later he is now my boyfreind (thank you broken sky!) By this point I had already bought all the other books, but because I didn't want the series to end right away I spaced them out between months. Three a year. (I don't know how I survive the time in between, but it was worht it to make it last) I read the last one immediately after my fourteenth birthday...almost two years ago. From the moment Kia's golem beat Ryushi to the ground, to the instant Whist (my favorite character) finished the battle, my heart was pounding and my mind was racing. Even reading his other stories and some of the most acclaimed books in the world, I can find nothing that touches me as deeply as Broken sky. I still think about that story constantly, they are my comfort books. I love them to death, and they inspired me more than anyting else I have ever read. I write to and imitate the beauty and wonder of Broken Sky, thank you Chris Wooding for writing this incredible story. It has been the most amazing book I've ever read.

°v°~ I am glad there exists another person who has devouted herself so deeply to Wooding-ness. I can so understand what you mean! It´s incredible, if you ask me, that one person alone can do something like creating such wonderful worlds. To read that he even succeeded in bringing you and your boyfriend together... that´s awesome! xD
I re-read BSky. And I still think it´s one of his best works. My heart still belongs to Alaizabel but hey! it´s such a great fantasy-story! How couldn´t I love it?! Broken Sky has so much to offer and it really got my attention until the last page was turned and the last word was read.
I experienced equal torture. Though in my case it was part six that refused to be found. Back then I used to mutter: "A few Wooding-books still elude us."
I am so pissed that they cancelled their works on a BSky cartoon. ._. Just thinking of it makes me angry again...

I know, I was soooo disappointed when I heard about it.
That literature course is so annoying, but as soon as I find time I'm going back to him! WOODING IS MY GOD!!!

Also, one of the BIGGEST things I loved about it was the size of the cast. there were so many unique and incredible characters, even those that were only in for a chaoter or so.
Oh, and no one get mad but I really didn't like Jaan much...
But Macaan was...was...wow. *drools* Whist is still my favorite though. ^_^

But Macaan was...was...wow. *drools* Lol sadly, agreed. I read Broken Sky in a completely wrong order... I started off with act 1 book 4 through a book club in school... why they sold that book first is annoying beyond belief but I brought it anyway. The reason? My friend pointed it out in the magazine and then pointing to Macaan, remarked 'This looks like your thing - he looks like an anime guy'. I read, in the following order - 4, 1, 9, 2, 8, 3, 7, 5, 6. Of course none of it made any sense whatsoever, so I waited for all of act one then read it in order. Only for the magazine to start off and sell act one again, as to when I demanded Dad buy me the rest from overseas. This is going back... uh... 1999... eight years ago. Mum kept the books when I moved out and now they're all back with me, I'm probably going to read them again soon. Though I don't remember the print being quite so big. I also got the Broken Sky poster somewhere (for those that didn't have that, a big blow up picture of the cover of act 1 book 1), and the little character cards of Ryushi, Kia, Gerdi, Macaan, Aurin and Tatterdemalion... at least I think it was those six, not too sure about Gerdi...

It always really annoyed me how quickly those books went out of print, particularly because it meant I couldn't reread any of them, apart from book 6, which was the only one I owned.

Argh I brought them, then once I had them all I read them in order and managed to make sense of the plot... then read acts two and three in order.

Bought them all as they came out in their collected editions. Boring, I know.
