Ooh, lovely artwork.
I also like the idea of naming one of the books "Slag". ;D

XD
Wouldn't the cover be just amazing?! ;D Oh, man... I need the Ketty Jay-series to be at least eight books long so we can get all the crew members and Slag on the cover. (well, that's not the only reason I want at least eight Ketty Jay-books... ahem.)
The French-cover-dude reminds me of Edward Carnby from the fourth Alone In The Dark-game. Hömm. XD

I still need to read The Black Lung Captain. Silly uni work taking up all of my time! *grumble*

Heh. There will be a train. SUCH A TRAIN!!!! MU HA HA HA koff koff etc That's only a rough, the actual cover won't look like that crazy neon weirdness, but more like the previous two covers. It got leaked early because, er, no-one can keep a secret I think the French are intending to call the sequels stuff like 'Frey's War,' 'Frey's Betrayal', stuff like that. Kind of like Sharpe's Rifles. The problem is that no-one can translate Retribution Falls with all its lovely double-meaningness into any other language. I've just heard my Polish publishers are calling it 'The Awakeners'...

Hahaha, aw yeah! =D Is it going to be a big, evil train? With lots of compartments and several storeys high? There could be a chandelier... *blabbl*
I was wondering about the colour scheme. Given that all the other books were more, like, blue and all. Though I would buy the book even if the cover was a garishly neon weirdness. ;D
And translation-wise: will waddle to the city tomorrow and look for "Piratenmond". So I will let you know what this Retribution Falls is called in German. I'm curious, too. Vergeltungsfälle maybe? What with it having waterlavafalls and all. I mean, they will have to settle for something in the end. Or they will completely disregard it and choose a name that has nothing to do with the original name...
Chris, you never think of the translators, the poor people! ;D
I read several reviews by now concerning the German version and everyone has loved it thus far. :3

All trains are evil, especially ones full of early morning commuters...

Count your lucky stars you don't live in London, then. They have to run commuter classes so people can learn how to tesselate like Tetris pieces at rush hour. Although not TOO much like Tetris pieces, otherwise they'd all disappear when the train got full... Of course I get to swan around on half-empty trains at off-peak times, being a shiftless layabout writer. Tangent.

Aha. Those are for the YA edition of Retribution Falls. The Ketty Jay books are all getting rereleased for 2012 as 'young adult' editions, sold simultaneously with the adult ones. Which basically means they'll infest another area of the bookstores ;D The sales folk at Gollancz think they're swashbuckly enough to make slightly younger readers happy.
The adult versions will keep the original covers and will still be being sold on the growned up shelves.

Aaaa I see, it's all part of a Master Plan! I'm curious what the other covers will look like. Are they keeping the "cowboy"-look?

The vague plan is that each cover will feature a different one of the characters. That's supposed to be Frey. It's not really how I imagine him, but you know how you artists get

So you said there's a YA version and an adult version? S o are the words and stuff the same on the inside? Or is the YA adult version more "appropriate". Sorry for the stupid question but alas I am stupid

Not such a daft question - I'd be interested as well. Read the new cover version of RF (and got the other two) but didn't get the impression it had been toned down. Hope that's the case.
