At my work (a publishing company) the rule is to write out any numbers shorter than 3 digits. So, 5 would be five, 16 would be sixteen, but 568 would be 568. Also, all dates are to be numeric unless you're saying something like "the sixteenth of the month" in which case you spell it out. But all years are to be written as numbers. It's mostly to stop clutter. ^_^
