No, I know, I just think Kerosene is under-appreciated. Possibly because I used to be cripplingly shy so I completely recognised the feeling. I suppose the real-world ones are so different to the fantasy/sci-fi ones it's hard not to have them near the bottom if you pick favourites anyway.
Oh yeah, and I'm a crazy fangirl for Cal. That could have something to do with it...

That may affect your opinion only slightly. ^_^

I have to admit the end pissed me off. they escape out of a burning building.... It is a good thing that he continued to write because although I found the rest of the book quite intresting the end ruined my whole view of the book...

I can understand that. It was sappy and just kind of out of place, but I still liked it. I liked the characters, so I'm glad Cal was okay and that he escaped. I mean, yeah, it wasn't believable, but I still like the book. ^_^ The end fire with Cal in the room made me cry anyway, lol, so I was too happy that he lived to care. ^_^

I didn't notice the sappiness, I was in the middle of a non-death celebration for Cal.

Yeah, it's only after thinking about the ending did I realize how sappy it was, lol. When I was actually reading it, I was too happy for Cal to notice, lol.

I never thought of it as sappy until just now... I guess I like Cal too much to care, 'cause I was so happy he didn't die!

I'm more of a "do anything for the suspense/drama" kind of guy. And I wouldn't mind if Cal died, if they showed how it impacted everyone else. Sure it had suspense but it was a more tamed (when compared to Woodings future works) and watered down version. I think what I wanted even more was closure. It was like Saved out of a burning building YAY the end.

I think the problem was that closure for someone suffering from pyromania would involve years of therapy and very boring things, and we all know from Harry Potter 7 how rubbish far-in-the-future epilogues usually are.

Plus...I thought Chris modelled Cal after himself slightly. I thought I read that somewhere. I know Crashing was based somewhat off his life. And I thought Kerosene was kind of the same. So, maybe Cal had to survive for Chris's sake, lol. After all, if he died, then there'd be no more books!
Plus, give Chris a break, lol, this was one of his first books. ^_^

I think I enjoyed it mostly because I was an shy, awkward, and somewhat isolated teen at the time, so it hit a number of chords. I daren't go back and reread it now, it'd threaten my rose-tinted nostalgic view of the book

Guilty as charged- I did spend the whole time reading Kerosene wanting to give Cal a hug and like, a dozen cupcakes with smiley faces on them. He's just so adorable...
It's one of my favorites, though I do think the ending was just a tad abrupt...
As for the Harry Potter epilogue... I didn't mind it at all, I don't understand why everyone said they hated it.

As for the Harry Potter epilogue... I didn't mind it at all, I don't understand why everyone said they hated it. I hated it because the rest of the novel was fantastic, and then she wrote a piece of rubbish fan-fiction to put at the end that was absolutely not needed.
