Probably because all artists who do that artwork are in Japan or Europe ^_^;

I didn't particularly like the cover - I've always thought of the book as a gritty, more realistic kind of deal then a stylized Japanese affair. I actually had this great image of a more Gothic inspired London then anything - tall, angular, dark buildings and whatnot.
Oh yes, its excellent artwork to be sure - it just doesn't fit the book.

i love the japanese covers, they give you the image of the character when you can't really put one together yourself. it's like with the twilight books(twilight by stephenie meyery, you haven't read them you will probably love them) the covers and drawlings the japanese artists come up with are amazing. thaniel is my favorite character of this book, i just wish that Chris wooding had gone more indepth with his relationship with alaizabel, i'm a sucker for a good paranormal romance.
this book rocks!!!!!!!!

I actually am taking classes to learn Japanese, so someday hopefully I can be good enough to understand that!

It looks a bit weird doesn't it? for a book cover I mean, I'd look at that and half expect to find a manga version. I like it though.
To be fair, those buildings in the background are gothic architecture.

Yeah. I learned a small bit from playing Japanese-only games. I learned the most basic of phrases that way, and some not-so-basic phrases. But I figured, ok, time to actually study it. Maybe now when I play the games I won't be guessing as to what they're saying quite as much. ^_^

Most of the stuff I know that way is highly amusing but totally useless. the most useful thing I can say in good Japanese is 'I'm sorry, my Japanese is very bad, do you speak English?'

Heh, I can't say "Can you speak English?" I can say "Excuse me" "I'm sorry" "I promise" "Snow" "Cat/Kitten" "Dog" "I am" (boy's version) and the other small stuff like "Good morning! How are you?" "Thank you" and "Goodby/See you later". All of course in the politest way. And then at least one random phrase: No wonder his butt sparkles in the dark.
I'm mostly attempting to learn kanji, katakana, and hiragana.

There's a really good book a friend of mine has for learning kanji that shows you the pictures they evolved from, which helps a lot more than you'd think. I'll see if I can find it on the internet somewhere...

Hmmm... I don't know any Japanese. But reading this thread is inspiring, maybe I should pick it up. I'm learning French right now. *rolls eyes* Anyway... That cover IS really awesome, but I don't think it fits the book either. I pictured it a lot darker, with more rain. That sort of thing.
